pre-surgery diet
Hello. I am new and am just starting the process. I was wondering if anyone had started the baratric diet prior to the surgery. I was told to start weening myself off sugar and coffee. and start eating low fat foods. I have to lose 12 pounds prior to my surgery. Is this common? Any advise would be useful. I just quite smoking as well so i am looking at a 3 month wait before surgery. But that is ok. I waited 20 years, what's another 3 months.
HI!! I am also new here. What part of NY are you from? I am also just getting starting, still waiting on my doctors to send the letter to the hospital for me but I think I am going to call the hospital myself and see what I can do as far as meetings and what not go to stay ahead of the game so to speak.
I'm from upstate NY. Binghamton area. You? I have my family support meeting on the 29th. Then I have my group meetings in december on the 6th, 13th and 20th. I am trying not to get overly excited about this until I have an approval and a surgery date. I have applied before but got denied by insurance. Now though, I have a new insurance and they cover the surgery sooooo, here's hoping. Where are you at in your program?
I just started in October, with a lean and green diet. for breakfast eat some egg beaters with some veggies, lunch a salad with a can of plain tuna with some fat free dressing, and dinner a 6 oz. portion of lean protein Iike fish, chicken or beef, some green hot veggies and a salad. lots of water. i have lost 20lbs since oct. 10. good luck.
you already had your surgery? Wow congrats on your 20. that is great. I am trying to ween myself off of bad things (Sugar, coffee, straws!) and i am trying hard not to drink with my meals. That is hard. I have failed misarably at this. But I will keep trying. Anything especially difficult you are finding with the process? Any help would be a life saver.
Nope, I have my surgery scheduled for Nov. 30th. The 20lb loss is from lean & green and Medifast. I stopped drinking soda reg/diet on Sept. 15th. I still drink with meals, though i know that's coming to an end. What has been difficult for me are things like the food network channel, magazines, days off from work when i get bored, or am watching tv and all i see is food. I still drink coffee, I'm allowed 2 cups a day, no sweetener and skim milk. BUT it's so worth it. I already feel a difference stamina wise. If and when I have a craving for something, but I know i'm not supposed to, I make it as fat free and sugar free as I can. Like a sugar free pudding, or some greek yogurt (this will be your saving grace because it has way more protein than regular) I also cheat with pickles, dill ones because there are no calories or fat (but sodium retains water so I only munch if I can't get my mind off of it.) These are in no way your doctor's orders, but If you absolutely have to indulge, it's better this way. Good luck, keep me posted.
Wow that is great. I have to lose 13 pounds before my surgery. I have an appointment with my dietican on Tuesday. I am getting excited. I had to quite smoking for 3 months before my surgery. I have already been 3 weeks smoke free and by the time I see my doctor, it will be a month. I am thinking my surgery will be scheduled around the end of january beginning of feb. I hope so at least. I think that I will try the lean & green diet and see. I am sure my nutritionist will be putting me on a plan. We'll see. Well good luck to you, Happy Thanksgiving.!
