Has anyone done surgery with Dr. Hamdi at Orange Regional Medical Center or Dr. Cerebona in Westchester.  If so what was your experience like and if you have any other names to suggest it would be much appreciated.  I live in Middletown, NY and do not want to travel too far mainly for post op follow up, nutrition and support groups.

I didn't use Dr Cerebona but I went to him for a consultation.  I would definitely recommend him.  He couldnt' do my surgery since mine was very complicated and I had to go to a surgeon that had experience with my particular case and he didn't.  I had prior reflux surgery called Lap Nissan Fundoplication and it had to be reversed in order to do the RNY.  Dr Cerebona had never done this and I didnt' feel comfortable using someone doing a procedure for the first time.  If I was just having the regular RNY, I definitley would have used him.

I went into NYC at Columbia Presbyterian I am loved my surgeon.  If you are willing to go into NYC, he is the best.

My surgeon was Dr Peter Kwon in Middletown.  He is in TriState Bariatrics at the end of Crystal Run Rd.  I had lap band surgery 2 1/2 years ago.  They also do RNY.  Great office, great staff and great follow up care.
Let me know if I can help in any way-- good luck to you-- jtraverse

Thanks so much....I wonder of your doctor is still affiliated with them.  There is one surgeon at Crytal Run named Dr. Hamdi and before him they were referring patients to Dr. Weissman?? and the name Tri-state bariatric did come up.  Which hospital was your surgery? Mine would be at Arden Hill.  It's good to see someone local becuase I have gone to Westchester and NYC but I fret traveling 1 plus hours for a follow-up etc.

IF you are going to go local, make sure the surgeon you picks has enough experience.  I chose NYC because my surgeon is highly experienced - he has done over 1500 surgeries and I feel he is highly qualified.  He has a high sucess rate and low complication rate.  I wouldnt' want to go to someone that has only done a few hundred surgeries. Practice makes perfect.  The traveling isnt that bad, I live in Rockland County and travel 45 minutes into NYC.  I dont' have to do it that often, more often the first year.  I went 3 times preop, then post op - 2 weeks, 5 weeks, 3 months, 6months, 9months, 1 year, 18months, 2 years, and then 2 times per year for life.  My surgeon has a great program with a great nutritionist.  I never would have gotten to goal and had such good labs without my Nutritionist.

Do you have to have used one of the surgeons at Westchester Medical to come to the support group?  I live in Rockland County and Good Samitarin Hospital is right across the street from me and wont let me come since I didnt' have my surgery there.  I would love to come to a meeting sometime. White Plains is  a little far but would consider it.
