Hey all - New in Upstate here!!!
Hey everyone! Just thought i'd introduce myself. I'm Nikki, and I live in Upstate NY (North of Albany). I have finally decided, after numerous weight loss atttempts, to get Lap Band. I was approved before, but I chickend out- and definitley not ready. It feels good to finally be secure in knowing that I am ready! I'd love to make new friends, and get to know you all!
Me in a small nutshell: I'm 25. Full time employee, full time elementary ed student and full time single mommy to a 4 year old little girl. :) I'm 5'5 250 lbs (roughl). Lowest weight in a LONG tie was 199 back in March of 2008. Gained it all back. Highest was 278. My weight makes me depressed, and insecure- which I am not naturally an insecure person. I love to be the leader, yet I find that I become so insecure with my weight, it hinders that.
I hope to hear from everyone! Good luck in your journies!!

They meet on the 2nd wednesday at 6:00PM, every other month @ the community learning center on side B at the hospital. The next one is scheduled for October 14th. I wont be there, my surgery is being done a week before and it is being done open.
I had started out with the Dr's at Albany Med-and was ready to be scheduled for the RNY-but decided to have the Duodenal Switch instead. Dr Hill is the only dr out here that performs the DS-so I moved everything over to them. So far, my experience there has been a good one. Hopefully I will feel the same way after the surgery....

Hi guys! I practically live around the corner. Cossayuna isn't that far away from Ft Edward.
Nicoel - where are you planning on having your surgery? I had mine (RNY) in Albany. We have a great weekly group for all WLS patients and there is also a lapband group but I am not sure when they meet.
I am a registered nurse and have been overweight all my life. I have always been insecure mostly because of my weight so I know where you are coming from. It's not fun being so insecure. Having lost 85 pounds since starting the program at Albany Med has helped a great deal in that area. So much so that after being alone and raising my kids, I finally have a boyfriend. Never would have thought I would have the confidence to try dating again.
Good luck to both of you on your journey!

"The road to health will have speed bumps, pot holes, stop signs and asshole drivers that cut you off... but with WLS, never doubt that you will get there."

Welcome Nikki!
there is a great bunch of people around here to give support with whatever surgery you may choose. I just had mine in July and am so glad I mustered up the courage to do it!
I love getting all the compliments now- after hearing of all the risks from friends who care... (but who don't know the right info)
Do your research.... and come join us on the LOSER's Bench!
