On the evening before his funeral, his folks, his Sister and I went out to dinner. We were sitting talking about him...reminiscing about a lifetime of joy in knowing him. His Mother looked at me in the lull of conversation. She told me, "Thank God you had your surgery!
I don't want to bury another one of my kids. You were on the same path he was and it would have taken it's toll. You look beautiful and are more healthy than you've been since you were a kid and I'm proud of you Honey!"
Of course I cried, and the pride I felt in being an honorary member of their family was multiplied a million times over. A few days later, I asked if I could share his story and let people know how this journey was more profound due to losing him too, too soon. She told me to share his story with anyone who would listen so another Mother won't lose their child too soon. And so I am.

We have a VoiP phone system at work. We have been playing with Desktop Video conferencing. It hasn't been a successful pilot as most people have stopped using it once the novelty wore off.
Anyway...I have a person that reports to me that has been out of the office for several months. He is in the reserves and was deployed overseas. He just returned to the office last week. When he called me his video popped up on the screen. After a minute or two i enabled mine as I thought it might be considered rude not to enable mine.
This system shows two windows the caller and myself. When my window popped up and I saw what I looked like. I lost my train of thought and was speechless. The person on the other end changed the subject and he said you look great.
I told him that this was the first time I saw my self from this point of view.
I thought to my self Wow...Is this me?...I look kind of handsome.
