Hi Everyone!
I'm Crystal Milliern, I'm 31 years old and I have been in NY for two years, and moved here from Mississippi, I work in the Rome, NY area and live in the Utica area.   I am just looking to make new friends and meet other people that have had roux en y or gastric band surgeries. I had my surgery December 2005 and it was the best decision I could have made.  I went from 356 to 210 with a total weight loss of 146 pounds. It just helps so much to have people to talk to. Does anyone know of a support group around the Syracuse or Oneida county area? Thanks!

Hi! Welcome to the NY board. I live in Washington County, NY. It's on the border with Vermont. I had lap RNY at the end of March 2009. Like you, the best decision I ever made for myself. Since joining the program at Albany Med I have lost 75 pounds, 50 of that since surgery.

Can't help you with the support group info for the Syracuse area, but if you pop over to the Secret Pals board (under "off topics") there is at least one person from that general area that may be able to help you out.

Hope to see you here often. Deb

Hi Crystal,
I live fairly close by, in Chittenango NY, I know that there is a support group through Upstate Bariatric Center in Sherrill NY, which is just down the road from you, not sure when they meet, but if interested I can get that info for you. Also if you are willing to travel there is a support group that meets most Thursdays in ****ro NY, which I attend and love, also in North Syracuse there is a support goup that meets the first and third Tuesdays every month that is open to everyone and the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays for post-ops of two years or more. If you are intereseted in any of those I would be happy to give you directions. You can email me at [email protected]

Hi Prettywomen,
I have not had surgury yet but I live in Lowville. I found some support groups from the surgons group out of New Hartford. Here is the link  http://www.bariatricexcellence.com/classes.html there is one in Utica. I have not contacted the POC on the web page but I plan to soon.

Hi Crystal,
I live nearby in Whitesboro, and just joined this group.  I currently have a lap band, but need to have it removed and am considering roux en y surgery.  There is a support group at St Lukes hospital in New Hartford.  They meet monthly on a Thursday evening.  I'm looking for friends and support as well.  Would love to hear from you.
