Okay I have made up my mind!
Okay I have been thinking lately that WLS is not for me. I just can not go through with it. I have been thinking that I should try and lose the weight on my own and push myself instead of having the surgery. I am scared of having complications and things after surgery and the thought of having to gain the weight back scares me too. I figured that this is my disease that I have and well..I have to fight it the rest of my life anyways..with or without the surgery. Guess I am in for this for life and I am going to do what I can to fight this disease. I will still come on and talk to others as I was so close to my surgery..only a month and a few days away.
Denise, I was in your shoes. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago. I was also scared of complications. Knock on wood it's been clear sailing for me. I'm not going to get on here and preach. This is a personal decision that you must make. If I can answer any questions you have PM me and I will try to help. I don't regret having the surgery on bit.
Denise,
Just so you know, Southern Tier Surgical Group (Dr. T's office) has a NON SURGICAL weight loss program. They teach the same things (life changing ways to eat and think) to NON surgical patients as they do the patients who are having surgery. I lost almost 50 pounds before surgery just learning what they taught...... could be an answer to your situation.
Good luck ~Sheri

HI Denise,
What you are going through is extremely normal and natural. I reconsidered and went back to weigh****chers "one last time" and once again, for me, it didn't work!
I spent countless nights reading through "OH's" obituary pages worried sick about possible complications and even death. I even questioned my RNY surgeon on how many fatalities he had,not once or twice but three times.....his consistent answer "none" and how he would NEVER do surgery on someone who was "too risky". Then I lost a few nights sleep thinking, "ok, so he hasn't lost anyone, but there's always a first....could I be his first"?
Then, I did my research online, went to 6 different support groups over a period of several months. Emailed, telephoned and even met in person anybody and everybody who I came in contact with who had had the surgery. I wanted to know not only the good, but the bad and ugly. I became educated on all the WLS benefits and falisies.
Three years later and down 120 pounds, I can tell you that my life has NEVER been better! I am not in constant pain and swollen ankles. I am very active. I am enjoying my daughters like NEVER before. I am doing things I've only dreamed of before surgery. "I AM TRULY LIVING INSTEAD OF EXISTING".
If I had convinced myself that wls wasn't for me and to keep trying diets, I'm confident that now only would I not be 120lbs heavier, but probably another 50 pounds or more as well.
Weight loss surgery is not the answer....it is a HUGE tool that works if you work it....This is something VERY hard to truly understand until you go through it.
Remember this:
If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten "
If you are happy with what you'v gotten...then so be it....if not...it's time to try something new!
I wish you the best of luck with whatever your heart choses!

Denise Im in the same boat you are, sort of. Im going threw my process of getting approved for wls but in the mean time Im trying to fight this on my own as well. Since February 23, 2009 I have lost almost 30lbs just by watching what I ate working out and pushing myself. Ive slipped and had things I felt I wasnt suppose to but I dont just totally give in because I blew it for that day, I just pick back up where I left off. Im scared and feel like if I could lose this weight now why do I need surgery? I think your brave for trying to conquer this fight on your own without surgery, I wish you all the strength.
Stay firm on your decision but be flexible on your approach.
