Hello All,

It has been a while...I had Gastric Bypass on 4-8-08, and have lost about 146 lbs since.  I had no problems, and have felt GREAT since...untill 2 weeks ago.  I went to the GF Hospital ER due to back pain, thought kidney stone.  He said, after a CT scan w/o any contrast, it may be a back strain...and admitted to not knowing much about the complications of gastric bypass.  I was sent home with pain meds, which I didnt take, not a fan of them.  So I was ok with on and off pain, till a week later, wed I had terible pain in my stomach.  Like BAD GAS...could barley walk, thought I was constipated. ..took a Fleets and only got out gas...but felt a ton better.  Then last Monday the pain was back after I ate, only a thousand times worse.  I could not move or walk... I called Ellis, drove down there...and they sent me to the Ellis ER.  Waited a while, and Dr P admitted me, the pain was so bad, in my belly, chest and back.  I had a CT with contrast, and my
bowel was very distended.  Dr. Ingrahm did emergency surgery on Tuesday and found 2 internal hernias.  They suspected I had one, but found 2.  I guess it is a complication, due to loosing so much weight so fast, the origional stitches come loose, causing those holes...and it pretty much causes bowel obstructions, and PAIN!!!  I also have a kidney stone, but no treatment for that as its not lodged.  It should pass?!?!  Today, a week later I feel much better.  I have 6 incisions again...just like after my bypass.  Only surgical pain...nothing like the pain of the hernias.  They said that pain would come and go untill they fixed it.  Go figure, a year later I have a problem... !  The surgery went smooth, except for the side effects I had with the pain meds... I am home, and out of work for a bit while I heal!  Has anyone else experienced internal hernia???  And could it happen again?

I know exactly how you feel.  I had all the same pain.  I went through the same thing a year out. Kept going to the hospital and they kept telling me I had gas.  I knew something was wrong.  I couldn't eat or drink anything either.  Finally had a CAT scan and didn't really show anything.  Was admitted to help with the pain and surgery the next day.  My intestines were all messed up and had hernia.  Instant relief when I woke up.  I was off work for 10 days.  I also had to have my gallbladder out 2 weeks before this surgery.  What a long month that was between the two surgeries back to back.  Hope all is well and glad you are feeling better.
Christine
