Hi Anita,

What is working for you? Are you eating enough protein? Do you have some good healthy carbs in your diet? (multigrains, whole wheat)  How about veggies? Any fruits? You need to eat a well balance meal.

With that being said, make sure you get enough nutrition throughout the day. I am not saying that you shouldn't go by what your surgeon ( this new Dr says) and nutritionist say to do. Although , try to do what is working for YOU and try to stick with it. DO NOT change it up. Stick to what you know what works for you and your body best.

Even though this lady Dr said this, truly , at the end, you need to do what ANITA needs to do in order for you to feel satisfied and keep your hunger under control. If a cup a day won't cut it for you, and keep you satisfied, then ask this Dr if you can eat 2 cups - maybe ...another 1/2 of cup in between.

I am 5 years post op as well, in the beginning... my surgeon had me on 2 meals a day without any snacks. i did awesome with this. later on as I got further out of surgery, I had to balance out my meals with my workouts. I was not eating enough according to my personal trainer and my other nutritionist ( not my regular surgeon's nut)   I changed up my diet to match up with my workout routine..... well sure enough , as I ate more calories then i should of, and guess what, i gained. yes ....even when i was working out and under the personal trainer and other nut. i went back to my nut and my surgeon's diet routine (eating twice a day - drinking tons of water- water loading, drinking sugar free cystral light drinks ) and i got back on track with my dieting.

NOW i am maintaining my weight loss. I haven't gained or lost anything. My weight is stable. Of course everyone wants to lose more weight. So if that comes along for me, I will welcome that in with open arms lol. But for now , i am good with at this weight.

I drink tons of water, SF drinks until 11AM - then i eat lunch at 1-1:30pm. - Then ,I wait for about 3-4 hours or so. about 4:30 - 5 PM - i eat my dinner. I take about 25-30 mins. to eat and then i am done.

I been eating this way ever since. I will not listen to any other nutritionist or personal trainer. because they always say to increase your calories and to be honest with you,  for US WLS patients, it is TOTALLY different. The way we eat is different now. We can't eat the same calories or increase them.

A cup a day, will NOT cut it. Sorry. Maybe 2 cups or 2 1/2 but NOT one cup. Because you really DO need energy and nutrition/vitamins from food to help you get through the day. and ONE cup will not do it for you or anyone else. ONLY newbies this will help, not us. Because we are further post op.

Protein usually fills you up and keeps your hunger down. Protein last forever in your tummy. Make finger foods , like - meatballs, or little muffin finger foods - egg veggie mc'muffin's that you can grab and eat.

I usually eat 2-3 little egg veggie or meatballs for breakfast with a fiber one bar. THAT usually last about 1:30pm or so. THEN i eat lunch, turkey/chicken deli meat on a whole wheat bread. I eat 1/2 of sandwich and save the rest for the next day.

for dinner , i eat one chicken breast cut up in pieces and throw it into a small salad.

I am strict with my dieting , I do not eat past 5 PM. I make sure I eat at 4:30pm-5 and i am done until the next day.

If I were you , i would perhaps try to tell this new Dr lady that you need to eat a little more in order for YOU to have energy. Because ONE cup of food will NOT cut it. That will leave you starving. and to be honest with you, at the end of the day , you will only go home and raid the kitchen and that is not good. SO try to reason with this new Dr. Remember , she is NOT US , she probably didn't have the surgery. That is why THIS WEBSITE is so good.... so we can actually talk to each other about this stuff. No one knows better then a WLS patient. and I am trying you that ONE CUP a day of food will make you insane!

Try to eat at least 2-3 times a day ... and nothing in between.  Drink water , water , water in between each meal!!  EAT more protein MEATS. Eat about around 350 -375 calories each meal- 3 times a day.  stay with in the 1200 calorie range. THAT'S the way to eat. NOT one cup a day. that is a little restricted. And also ,keep on working out everyday.... walking , biking, cardio workouts, DVD workout, go to the gym.

Good luck to you

Lizzy
