Could anybody tell me if you have to bring your machine to the hospital. I had a woman tell me yesterday that when she got her lap band done last week, they would not do the surgery unless she brought her machine to the hospital. I was told I to had apnea, but I cannot use that  stupid machine. after 45 min I feel I choking, Thew Dr even gave me sleeping pills and still no help.

I HAD to bring mine.  You could alwys just bring it.  doesnt mean you have to use it.  I can tell you that it takes some time to get used to it.  it doesnt have a lower setting?  mine does.  Now I cant sleep without it.

When I had my surgery, the hospital supplied one.  I didn't use it, but because I had apnea they had it in my room.  You may want to check with your surgeon's office.

Good luck!

I had to bring and use mine.  Talk with your doctor and find out what to do.  If you are having trouble using it, maybe it needs to be adjusted, talk with the Pulmonologist.

It was manditory that I brought my machine with me, since I had sleep apnea I had to spend my first night in ICU and had to wear my machine for the first 24 hours. Thats standard policy with my dr's office for patients with sleep apnea

Hiya John!

I had to bring mine with me--in fact, I had forgotten it the first night, so they were going to set up one for me, but they didn't have a mask I liked, so I had to wait until the next night to use it. They didn't have a problem with doing my surgery, but I would bring it just in case. They may ask you to wear it, but if you have to take it off, I would think it should be fine. At one point, I had woken up and pulled it off because I was just so uncomfortable.

Also...my machine has a setting called the Settling Mode--also called a RAMP setting. It starts the machine on a lower setting and it gradually increases to the desired setting. This way, you can go to sleep on a lower setting and you will be asleep by the time it gets to the higher one. At first, I had a bi-pap(2 pressures) on a high setting, so the settling mode increased over 45 min. Now, it is a c-pap(1 pressure) at a much lower setting and it increases over 20 min.

Anyway..maybe you could ask the sleep center or whoever set up your machine about that setting. It might help you adapt to the machine better. =) Only 9 more days..well, today is almost over...so 8 more days!!! You must be so excited!

Hugs, Heather

I had to have mine and be in ICU the first night because of it.  Check with your surgeon.  :-)

I was at NYU and they provided the unit and used the settings from the sleep study that they had copies of. I would think it is just something else they can charge for.

I actually forgot to bring mine...I think they were kinda mad about it but they still did the surgery. I'm also having that same issue with my machine. I hit the ramp button about 6-7 times a night. I called the company to ask about adjust it to a lower setting (already on the lowest), but of course, I need a doctor's note.I feel like my sleep is worse now than before. I haven't even been on it a month yet.  Good luck!
