Just looking to see if there is anyone on the board that is currently going through the process at Albany Medical Center?

I am a patient at Albay Med.  I had surgery on Feb 18th with Dr. Bonville. I was in the program for about 1 1/2 years before I finally had surgery. Do you have questions?

Hello!
I had RNY with Dr. Singh Lap 10/9/2002!
I have facilitated support groups as well as run preop psychological education seminars for AMC's Bariatric program as well; as Amy stated how can we help and it is a very multidisciplinary program that seems to continually improve all the time!

I had my surgery with Dr Rosati on October 7, 2008.  I just love him!!
I was using Albany Clinical Nutrition in Slingerlands.  Some of them have now joined with the AMC group so you can make all your appointments at the South Clinical Campus.

In the hospital, I was very impressed with the staff and care provided at AMC.  I am an RN and so I think that I see lots of things that "civilians" wouldn't see.  I was impressed!  I have worked in the best and some of the worst hospitals and AMC definitely ranks up with the best.

What questions do you have?

I am scheduled for surgery (RNY) on March 30 at Albany Med. Their program is wonderful. Dr. Ward Dunnican is my surgeon, Dr. Lindstrom is my nutritionist. I have seen Denise (PA) many times - she is great. And Kathleen, the dietitian - also great. The nurses, techs and office staff just as fabulous and supportive.

The Thursday evening general support group is wonderful. We talk about everything.

I would certainly recommend this group and hospital.

Yes Everyone Ive seen there so far has been amazing! Ive meet with Denise, and Kathleen, and at the end of the month I met with Dr.Santoro on March 27th and have my first consult with Dr.Bonville in the beginning of April. What excatlly happens when I met with the Nutrional MD? and the surgeon for the first time?

My visit witht the nutritionist seemed very short. She was happy with the progress I was making in losing the 10%. She did order some lab work - Vitamin D level, CBC and CMP. That was mostly to check that things were okay. I'm greatful for that becauwse we picked up on a severly low Vit D level. Lucky for me it won't delay my surgery, we are treating it. I don't know exactly what yor nutritionist will look for. Some of them do examin you, they are after all doctors.

Since this is your first visit to the surgeon, he will examine you for sure. He will likely discuss your options, what he thinks is best for you. If you have questions - write them down and bring that with you. He is there to make sure that you understand completely what you are doing, ansering your questions assures him that you understand. If he tells you something that doesn't make sense ask him to explain it again.

Don't be surprised if he/she brings in a intern/resident - Albany Med is a teaching hospital. They all have to learn somewhere. You are asked if it is okay. If you are not comfortable with that just say so. If the student does the exam the doctor is right there to make sure it is done right. This happened when I saw the nutritionist.

Good luck - are you going to the support group? The Thursday meetings are great. Hope to see you there. Deb
