Bad Omen??????
Alright, for those of you who are not superstitious....you all will likely grin and think to yourself, "Whatever" and on to the next post, however, this is for those of you who come at things with an open mind....let me start by reciting my story in the shortest possible way.... One year ago this month, I decided I wanted to have this surgery (RNY) took me forever to finally get my courage up to make that decision, well, I called the Dr.'s office to make an appt. and they ask me what Dr. I want, well, I had heard sooooo many good things about Dr. Moon, so I chose him, well due to his popularity I couldnt get into see him for near six weeks, had I chosen Dr. Sada, I could have gotten in, in about 2 weeks....I opted for Moon and went with the 6 weeks....so I wait, finally I get to see Dr. Moon...I fall in love with his personality, confidence and track record...I feel great about my decision, I come home start making all kinds of phone calls to my insurance company...go through ALL of the hoops, they tell me what requirements I need and again I feel great, I make an appt. for the group info session which is required by the Dr.s office, I attend this, and practically get into an arguement with the insurance coordinator regarding the requirments, she basically says she wont submit for pre-determintaion till I havemet the requirements SHE thinks I need to meet for the insurance company....*SIGH* ok, sooo I move on to my individual appts...with the social worker and nutritionist.....social worker right away says...your fine...good luck on your surgery...the NUT says....I need to see you a few more times due to insurance reasons, says you need 6 months of supervised diet....I say to her, the insurance company said they didnt need that...she says well, Deb wont submit till we do it...At this point , im like Whatever...lets just get this **** done....sooooooo here we go again...THEN in September I hear a rumour that Dr. Moon has LEFT the practice.... Good God....now what do do....I cal the NUT..she talks to me about Dr. Sada...I agree, she schedules me an appt. with him, cuz NOW i have to see him for a chat..UGH..moving on.... .I go through almost 7 months of NUT counseling, and they finally decide I can see the NP Angie...so I go to her, she sends me for blood work, the girl in the lab cant find my vein, pokes me 4 times before she gets her blood, by this time Im ready to scream....but ok...I move on...NOW Dr. Sada wants me to have a sleep study....they schedule me for that....I pass.....Now they want me to have pulmonary clearance.....I go for that...I pass.....Now they said I need to have Medical clearance through my primary before they can submit to insurance....didnt understand that one...but ok....I go for that...I pass....I call so I can get on the schedule and they are now scheduling 6 -8 weeks OUT....they want to schedule me for March 23rd...however my daughter shows horses and I want to see her show on April 3rd...about 400 miles from here, well I cant do that kind of traveling a week out of surgery, so I say to the girl, could we schedule for when I get back, she says yep...I said how about April 6th, she says, your Dr. will be on vacation from the 6th- to the 17th...OMG...are you serious???? So as of now Im scheduled for April 22nd, however now she tells me I will have to have another medical clearance by my primary before hand because he (the Dr.) requires it be within 30 days of the surgery.... Anyone else think this may be a bad omen....???????????? Or just a very UNORGANIZED office.......I dont know what to think.
ok so i totally believe in omens... BUT! This office is totally unorganized!!!
I was given everything I had to do on my first visit... It did include everything you mentioned minus the 6 month supervised diet. What ins do you have?
Where in NY do you live? considering you have met all the requirements...if It were me i would find a new surgeon. Dr. Garber is supposed to be top notch for RNY. I would wonder why my origional surgeon left the practice and the other surgeon didnt. I dunno it would make me uncomfortable. I do not think it is an omen having to do with the surgery... maybe just the practice. I don't know the doc so not trying to offend anyone who used him but If I were you that would be where my comfort issue would be.
Good luck!

I am located in Horseheads, NY....this office is about 10 minutes from my home, Dr. Moon left because his contract was up and he didnt like the offer the hospital made him and they wouldnt budge so he moved on. But, believe me, I need to let someone know how this whole process has gone for me. Its making me crazy to be honest.
ah so you are upstate. Dr. Garber is not really a viable option... I am sorry you having so much trouble. Do you feel comfortable with the other surgeon?

I feel the office staff is a really important part of what makes the experience,...are RNY drs hard to come by in your area?
There are quite a few of them to pick from in the NYC/LI area.
I had the DS and travelled to Manhattan for it because there are no Drs on LI or in Queens that do the DS. Not to say that there havent been a few (very few) DS surgeries done out here, but none done by anyone with enough experience for me to consider them.
While my Drs office staff wasnt everything I would have liked, they did provide enough to navigate me through the appt, ins, etc with out too much aggravation. I was there for Dr Roslin and his stellar reputation afterall ,but the office really does make or break the Dr, and sometimes even the best drs have lousy managers/staff and it takes just one dopey employee to sour your taste, yanno?
Bottom line is you need to find your comfort level. I interviewed with 4 RNY surgeons before I heard about the DS. I couldnt get satisfied. I did the same thing with all my PS. I interviewed many surgeons and it just wasnt a fit. When I met the right dr I just knew...when it felt right I just knew and went with it full steam ahead.
You will know too.
Follow your instincts and research research research!!!!
Best of luck to you!

I think what it comes down to if your comfort level. If you feel that the surgeon cares and is competent then i say go for it. Remember its not just the surgery but you have to be in the office for follow ups etc... you have to weigh it out and only you can make the decision. it is your body and your weight loss. If every time you deal with the office you feel like eating a tub of ben and jerry it may not be right for you...
