I'm assuming we don't get private rooms right?  Like two per room?  I heard it was pretty noisy//

Info would be great!

Thanks

Jennifer,
I had a private room & yes, at times it was noisy but not too bad. Besides I really think any hospital can be given the right cir****tances. I had the nursing staff shut my door when they left the room, especially at night. I knew I wasn't going to get a good night's sleep after the first night (I was drugged up good & still feeling the effects of the anesthesia.) I knew I could sleep & get a lot of rest once I got home. BTW I had the BEST nurses during the overnight shift!!! I don't know who laughed more me or the male nurse I had!! (his name escapes me at the moment - it was over a yr ago after all - Jeffery maybe.)

Having worked in hospitals for 16 yr or more as nurse/NP and having had 3 surgeries, I can say rooms are luck of the draw unless an elective, self pay surgery (when I had my plastic surgery I had private room! worth the $5K for 2 nights? umm maybe)

You can request a Private, depending on availability that may or may not be able to be granted (those with issues needing private room for infection control or immunity take precident) as well many insurance companies WILL NOT PAY the extra fee, if you request and are granted you may incur that cost. Roommates can run the rane from awesome to totally NOT awesome (like the woman who had a convict and police guard in her room!) or like myself who had a 90 yr old + demented woman who called out all night with call bell, getting out of bed, yelling.....sigh
But alas in the scheme of things hospitals have never been a place of rest or relaxation with meds and vitals etc around the clock. I frame it as a SMALL part of the journey perhaps less than optimal but so far in the future now it neither matters. Be well..I know the more aniouos I became the more the little things seemed to take on a life all there own (my need to control something!)......

Yeah I was at Albany Med for 7 weeks when I was pregnant with triplets and I hate hate being in the hospital.  At least then I had a private room.  Oh well...hopefully I won't be in there too long and can just go home to sleep.

Yep... At Ellis is the luck of the draw.. I personally had a room mate, two friends both had private rooms.. But it doesn't really matter... The nurses will be in and out every 10 minutes anyway or something will be beeping...

I was lucky enough to have a private room when I had my surgery, my wife had a room mate.  So she would suggest that you bring a sleeping mask and ear plugs as her room mate was a night owl and up to 3 or 4 am.

Hopefully you will only be in the hospital for 2 nights.  The staff at Ellis will take excellent care of you, they are the greatest.

Yeah I have major insomnia even at home so I know I'm not sleeping a wink there...I'll be begging to go AMA (against medical advice) by the end of it lol.

Hey Karen.  I'm having my gallbladder out this monday and my bypass on the 16th.  I haven't yet been to a support meeting but hope to start right after surgery.  My days have been filled with drs appointments and kids lol.  Just got back from a second ultrasound of my gallbladder this morning at Ellis..in this crappy weather.

When is your surgery?
