Good Bariatric Nutritionist?????

Hiya, everyone!

I am from Suffolk County, Long Island and I am intereasted in finding a really good nutritionist who is knowledgable in bariatric surgery--specifically the gastric bypass.

The hospital where I had my surgery has a team of nutritionists, but during my mandated pre-op visits, I got the impression that they were not really specialized in bariatric surgery. They spoke to me about protein drinks and powders for right after surgery, proper portion sizes and about limiting carbs, but that was kind of the end of it.

I really want to find somebody to impart some more knowledge and to make sure I am on the right path. I seem to doubt myself and that I am doing the right things. I am trying very hard, but just wish I had a bit more professional guidance. I just want to make sure that I do the best I can, with the best plan.....so that I don't fail at this, like all the other times I tried to lose weight. Failure is not an option, here!

Anyway...if anybody knows a bariatric nutritionist on Long Island, please, please, please let me know!   Thanks so much!!!!

Try Michelle from Dr. Brathwaite's office in Patchogue.  She is really nice and knows what she's talking about.

i use dr rubenstein and mehta's office in patchogue... Laurie the nutritionist is very nice and takes the time to explain things to you... I like her because she is not an underweight "this is how it is" nutritionist... She told me that she struggles with her weight also, and knows that there is a big difference in saying than doing...  She seems to know her stuff and recomends RNY patients more so than lap banders to meet with her regularly for at least a year after surgery to help stay on track. Suffolk surgical group also has a support meeting once each month in riverhead that the doctors pshycologists and nutritionist attend to answer questions in an open forum.
