Hello!
I thought I posted here Wednesday when I got home. well, anyway i have been home since Wednesday early afternoon. I have been feeling fine! A little soreness, tired when I do too much, and a ari/gas bubble that occassionally rolls up my chest. Feels like indigestion would feel like. Today I feel great! Slight muscle soreness and tight stitches.
Hospital stay was Ok. As best as they can go I guess. Attentive staff, helpful, concerning from all depts that visit after surgery like dietician, dietary dept, anesthesia, clergy etc.
My appt with Dr. is next Thursday and I guess I can't drive till after I have been cleared. That is going to put a damper on my 2nd week off from work.
Other then that just sipping fluids all day. It is actually hard to get it all in(especially when you take an afternoon nap).
Anyone else home from surgery this week??

  Lisa,

I am glad that things went well for you and the surgery is over - you are on your way!    Sounds like you have things under control - sipping, resting - make sure you move around.

If you have any questions, let me know - stay warm!

Thank you!
I know, it is sooo cold! I am glad I can't drive yet or I would be out in it! I have had the heat at 70 and it still feels cold in the house. I have been moving alot too.
The only thing is that I feel a little dizzy or maybe it is weak. Just a little bit like a foggy feeling. Can't wait to be able to eat something even if it is puree. I love eggs and I am hoping my new pouch does too. For cream of wheat and oatmeal should it just be plain because we ususally eat the Brown Sugar ones. I am assuming those are no, no's.
Another question: Why can't we eat pasta or soft noodles?? I would think they were soft enough.
OMG! A friend of the family made  big things of homemade ghoulosh and mac and cheese for my hubby and kids with the bread! Can I freeze some and try it later??? In a month or two??
Today is actually the first day that I feel like eating! Since my surgery was Monday and I have to follow clear liquid diet for 1 week, is my week up on Monday?? I don't see the Dr. until Thursday and they said I couldn't drive until I am cleared by him. I was hoping I can start my puree before Thursday though.
Sorry about all the questions and thank you for support,
Lisa

I can't remember when the pasta is allowed, but it is down the road a little bit.  I think it swells in the pouch.  It fills me way too quickly.  Also the pasta is just not good nutritionally, it does not give you very much.  Once you get on the pureed stage, you need to make food choices that provide protein, fiber, vitamins & minerals.  You will be eating such a small amount that you don't want any empty foods.  Even at 10 months out, pasta is just a taste.

This does not mean that what we eat can't taste great, just check out the recipe forum here at OH.

If you want flavored outmeal or cream of wheat, add some sugar free syrup or flavoring.  If you try the instant oatmeal with sugar you will probably not feel too well afterward.

Hope everything keeps going well.

Jim,
Thank you for all your info! Michelle reminded me that Splenda does make a brown sugar. Who knows everything tastes so sweet to me know I may not want to sweeten it. The pasta thing I was hoping that I could eventually do just a taste later on. I can always make it and just do the ricotta and sauce and ground beef. Everyone seems to post about Wendy's chili too. How long before chili is an option? My mushee/puree stage starts Monday and I can have tuna, chicken egg, salad. etc. Did you mix this up in a food processor?? I got a nice one for xmas from my sister(I never had one, always chopped everything by hand). I am looking for recipes for this stage too. You know I think I am most excited about this surgery to actually try new things, make recipes that are healthy. I have never really liked to cook but am now looking forward to getting the family on board.
If you have any recipes or suggestions please pass then along.
thanks for all your help,
Lisa

Good morning and yes its stillll cold lol.   Stay inside and enjoy the time off.   Watch the sugar content on the instant oatmeals/cream of wheat you may not feel great after.   Follow the diet they give you - if you have cream of wheat make it plain with added splenda brown sugar or whatever sweetner you prefer (nutra sweet etc.)    I am almost 1 yr. out and have weight control oatmeal quite a bit for breakfast.  Concentrate on the protein - you wont get much from cream of wheat.  eggs are good your pouch will let you know which way it likes them fixed lol - scrambled, poached, omlette go slow and try not to rush things.  try some ricotta cheese w/cinamon warmed a bit in the microwave or with sauce on it in a couple weeks you will enjoy that - a lil italian for ya.
Pasta and noodles - like jim said that is a bit down the road and honestly as of right now I have not had it that often probably no more than 5 times this year same with bread/rolls etc just no desire for that, eventually crackers or something may taste good - right now stick with the soft soft foods - yogurt (greek yogurt is great lil expensive but worth it for the amoutn we eat).   try potted meat, refried beans.   Use your imagination with what you have available and you will be surprised as to what you can have - dont look at what you can't have right now eventually you will get there.

The time flies - I said when I came home the puouch was like bringing home a newborn lol    You will learn what it likes and doesnt.

Talk soon ....

Michelle,
Thhank you for advice. I forgot Splenda made a brown sugar. I can't wait to eat eggs! I love them. Nutritionist said to try not to eat more then 3 a week. The ricotta I am looking forward to made with sauce and made sweet. I realize that pasta and rice are not all that great for us but like you said I am hoping to be able to take a small bite later on. Who knows I may not even like it then. It says that we can have mashed pototoes. I did not think they were all that good for us either. I would think maybe a mashed sweet pototoe would be healthier. I am going to have to log on a site that tells me all my nutritional info so I know what I am getting.
Right now the juices, SF jello and SF pops are all to sweet for me. YUCK! And the thought of broth is still grossing me out. Maybe if I open a can of Reg soup and just drink the broth it would be better. I have been watering everything down alot.
Now the Greek yougert? I have never been a yourgert lover except for the Whips chocolate Rasbery. I think Yoplait. I am anxious to experiment with yougerts. Is the Greek in the store??
thanks again for al l your help,
Lisa
