Snacking

Hello All,
I have a question, can you all tell me if you snack (good one) during the day or just stick to your 3 meals?

I am 3 1/2 years out and have gained 50 lbs back! I am trying to get back on track and someone said something that rang a bell and made sense. That maybe snaking is keeping habits from changing. I should stop the snacking even if it was good things.

Just wanted to see what others do......

Thanks

Hi Debra,
I snack if I'm hungry. If I'm being good, I snack on Protein or a grapefruit. Sometimes just a skim milk latte will tide me over. I also do some not so good snacking, which is clearly....not so good! I am struggling with 15 pounds regain and my biggest dilemma is the glass or two of wine at night with dinner. It is so enjoyable to me, but it's a lot of carbs and extra calories and I'm just not willing to give it up. I try to keep it to one small glass with dinner, and mostly do ok with that, but a few nights a week, I'll take a second glass and then feel guilty about it.
I think the big thing for me is exercise, which I have not been keeping up with. New year, new habits, I'm motivated to make some changes.

How's everything else going? Job? Hubby?

xo

I am only a little over a month out, so I have a lot to learn....but....
my surgeon's guidelines are 3 meals a day and 1 snack. Of course, this may be unrealistic in practice, but, thought I would contribute....

Also, even though it will probably stink, maybe try drinking more....I find I have to drink so much, I don't have as much time to eat! ha!

Good luck! =)

Hi Deb!
Happy New Year!

Personally ....I do much better with 3 meals -- NO SNACKING.

For me ... healthy snacks lead to unhealthy ones, then to grazing a BIG BIG BIG  NO NO for me.

so that is my two cents --

I know that is what works for me.

sending hugs,
Britt

Hello gals!
I am preop for RNY on Monday and I am hoping to have a snack with my 3 meals. I will try to have a healthy one with watching portion size. I think alot of my problem that got me here was portion size. I am hoping not to deprive myself.
I do have a question for those that have gained some weight back after surgery.
Does it creep up or seem like you gain it fast?? This is one of my fears preop. That I will lose it all in the first year (I am a lightweight) then put it back on the next year! Weight has seemed to come back quick before after I have lost it.
I have read too that some people go back to protein, earlier stage eating and lots of water to get weight back down. I know these pre-op Medifast shakes would get your weight down in a week! You can do those for a week and lose 10lbs! These are killing me for a preop diet! No food at all! I am sooo ready for Monday!

My surgeon and clinical nutritionist recommend 3 meals a day with just fluid (sugar free) NO SNACKING.  They feeling snacking brings back bad habits.  Anyway the pre-op protein diet I hear a lot of people do that to get off some weight gain after surgery or even medifast for 2 weeks.

Anyway, good luck.

Hey sweetie.  I understand the snacking getting out of hand.  Why don't you try doing  3 meals a day for a little while.  Then you can introduce healhty snacks during the day.  I do have planned snacks during the day, and I try to make sure at least one of them is veggies.

Hope you find what works for you.
