Three weeks b4 surgery
I did post this in the main forum but hoping someone that had dr fitzer can help me out or any one else with any imput would be great. Ok I am lost been reading many of the posts on here being a new member and all. I see that many people are talking about being on a special diet two weeks prior to surgery whats this all about???? I am going to be two weeks out on monday and want to make sure I am not suppose to be doing more. I have a three day diet that I recieved when I was going through the pre and post op stuff with the dietician. I am also wondering about the protien shakes for after the surgery is there one kind over the others that works better or that is prefered.? I have been jumping with my weight I only had to loose five pounds to get the surgery but when i went back I had gained five had to go in for anthor weight and had lost the five but still had to loose the other five then when i weighed my self again i was back up again is this normal right before surgery? Any ideas to get these last few pounds off before jan 5th which is when i am weighed in for my pre admison stuff. I find my self looking at the before and after pictures on the site and cant wait for the pounds to come off but every day the surgery grows near I am more and more nervous! I was thinking about buying a scale for the house but after reading some of the posts may be its not such a good idea until after the first few months. I threw mine out years ago when I became so overweight. What do you think? Can you chew gum after surgery? The vitamins and mineral supplements I was wondering if any one knows of a place to get the chewable form of calcium citrate? Well i have so many questions that I didnt have b4 but now that it is right around the corner I feel like its almost over whelming!!! Looking forward to having my surgery but my nerves are all tense i can only imagine what its going to be the morning of.

Hi
Sounds like water weight gain and water loss, try and stay away from all salty foods and no added salt, eat just veggies and protein for now until your surgery, drink water that will act as a natural diaretic for you, as far as Dr Fitzer we only have to do the 3 day liquids so there is no food in the stomach and this helps shrink the liver a bit, shrinking the liver makes the surgery safer because they move that bugger around during the surgery. I get my calcium citrate at Wegmans it has added Vit D and magnesium and has a sort of citrusy taste, they are a chewable this is Wegmans brand, also Sarah the NP will eventually put you on B12 and I get those sub lingual from walmart its the rexall brand there, I also take a sub lingual B complex in a liquid form I get from Walmart, of course my 2 chewable vitamins childrens with calcium and minerals I get those from Wegmans also, I am almost at 9 months (surgery April 2nd) post op and my lab work has been great so far!
I buy the EAS low carb protein shakes at Walmart they come in what looks like a juice box they have 110 calories and lots of vitamins and hardly any carbs, they are 11 ounces though, at first you won't be able to swallow that much, most people get the big tubs of protein powders but taste changes after surgery and you might get stuck with a huge canister of something that you can't drink, these at least are small and have 17 grams of protein in them, I had just bought some of the fuzzy navel protein nectar and that has 23 grams and very low carbs, they will tell you absolutely no protein shakes after the 3rd week, but well I was honest and told them I do drink at least one a day to make sure I get my protein in, Sarah wasn't happy with it but what could she say. I have weighed myself every day from the beginning its a personal choice some do it some don't, I bounce between 1 - 2 lbs in any given day but I understand it and it doesn't bother me, I am just a curious kind of person so that is why I do it.
They will tell you not to chew gum after the surgery because if you swallow it, there could be lots of problems and obstruct your pouch or intestines and besides sugarless gum gives you gas and bloating with the sweeteners they use in it, some people get runny stools also. Let me know if I can be of any help or you have any more questions I hope I have answered some of the ones you had...
((Hugs)) You'll do fine, its a little scarey but Dr Fitzer is great and he knows his craft well!

Hi!
Everything you are feeling is completely normal. I remember feeling the exact same way. Believe me, these next 3 weeks will fly right by. Try not to stress too much...it will be fine. It will be over before you know it and you will join the rest of us on the loser's bench!
I agree with the other poster who said not to get too much ahead of time. My tastes changed after surgery, too, and I am actually able to swallow pills. You will just need to try new things and see what works for you (within guidelines, of course). Make sure you get the support you need, either through a support group, this website-which is wonderful, people you know or work with who have had it.
Your life is going to change-so hang on and get ready to enjoy the ride :)
Good luck and stay in touch!

I am now three weeks away from my surgery date and also very nervous. Everyone tells me this is normal, so I'm just going to go with it, stay focused on my goals and try to do what the dr. says.
It sounds like you're getting your questions answered from the other posts. All I can offer is to wish you all the best. Keep us posted on how you're doing.
