Feb 16th - Ellis Hospital Dr. Panemanglore
Jennifer,
Dr. P did my surgery 02/13/08 and I have lost 136lbs! He (as everyone at Ellis) is a very skilled surgeon. I can tell you that his bedside manners are the best, my family was very impressed with him, he explained everything and answered any questions they had and did not rush them. You will be pleased - and the care I received was wonderful! I started Medifast 01/05/08, and the first couple of days are the toughest - I was allowed the lean and green meal at night (or for lunch if you choose). If I was hungry at lunch I would have 2 packets and that would fill me up, you will find what works for you. I used the chocolate with ice - although some do use flavorings- I did that a couple of times with vanilla or raspberry but overall preferred plain chocolate.
Resist the temptation to cheat - although it can be difficult it is best not to you want the organs shrunk down to give Dr. P the room he needs for the surgery. The time does goes fast and I am sure you will do great! Please keep us updated and Happy New Year!

Wow 136lbs is amazing! It's exciting to hear too. I love Dr. P so far and I'm glad to hear you had a good experience with him. so far i haven't heard one bad thing. So you were on medifast about as long as I'm going to be...and you survived lol. I'm not sure yet if I'm allowed any kind of food with it...I'm praying!
It alwso seems like everyone so far says that chocolate is the only tolerable one. I'll have to remember that. Do they let you choose what flavor you get to take home? Hope so..
Thanks for all the info..love hearing it.

Chocolate or vanilla are what they have at the office (or at least thats what they had last year). I know some people buy it online in other flavors.

Michelle,
Dr. P is doing my surgery on 1/12. I started my Medifast shakes yesterday. They are horrible! I will say the chocolate is the best though. I whipped up 2 packets and put it in freezer for different consistancy. It's OK. The vanilla I cannot tolerate. It has that baby formula smell. I even added flavors to it, still YUCK! They have a new flavor now: Orange. We will see how that is. I was explaining to Jim in an earlier post that my blender sucks and does not chop the ice. Can I put ice in my new food processor??
What happens if I do not get the 5 shakes in a day?? I only got 3 in yesterday. What if we go out to dinner for New Years tonight?
Also I am starting to get the nervous feeling. Should I do this? Can't I just eat right and exsercise?? Will I ever be able to eat food and will I ever be able to stop thinking about food??

Maybe if you put two packets in each shake you could get the five in a day...I think it might actually slow down weight loss if you aren't getting enough calories but I'm not positive. You could always call the office and ask about it. My fear is also not being able to drink them. As far as going out to dinner tonight..I'm not positive what to tell you. I really should tell you to not cheat because it will make it that much harder to go back to the shakes, but if you do cheat just don't go overboard and hop back on the wagon tomorrow. I've heard it's easier after the surgery because at least you can do broth and other flavors etc...so this is the worst of it. It's normal to feel scared...but just remember in the end it will all be worth it. If we could just eat right and excersize we would have already right?

Hi Jennifer and anyone else reading this -
I just found this thread and enjoyed reading all the posts about Medifast. Ihad to be on it 6 weeks - over Christmas and New Year's. I made it but.....am SO thankful its over. I have some shakes left over and I know they would help me get some much need protein right now BUT I can't even think about having that taste in my mouth again. Don't think I will ever be able to dring another one. It worked though because I lost 23 pounds in the 6 weeks.
Good luck to anyone with upcoming surgery.

Hi Gail! Yeah I'm on my second week of pure medifast and I'm dying lol. I only lost 10 lbs the first week but I've lost like 5 lbs already in two days so hopefully I'll lose a decent amount this week. I only did the chocolate the first week so I'm adding strawberry and vanilla this week just for something different.
I honestly don't know if I would be able to have made it six weeks over the holidays....so you should be very proud!
How are you doing now?

i'm doing well post surgery - the 1st few days when I was on clear liquids i was dropping a pound a day - now that i'm in the mushy puree stage its falling off much slower but I can still see results each day and i see a difference in the way my clothers fit so I'm good! Over 35 pounds have disappeared since 12/2 and I hope to never see them again. LOL
Congrats on your 15 pounds - stick to the medifast and you'll do great. Keep us posted on your upcoming surgery. I don't know much about RNY but I'm here should you need any support.
