wondering if anyone Knows
hi there,
I have empire bc/bs, and my surgery was approved the same day as the surgeon's office submitted it. You've been waiting over a month ... I'd first call the surgeon's office and ask them if they heard anything from empire, maybe they were notified that they need to submit some additional info or something. after that, I'd call my insurance company directly and ask why its taking so long and what are their guidelines as to the timeframe they have to either approve or deny a surgical pre-certification request.
good luck to you!

Hi,
Thanks I did call my Drs office today and found out that they had not submitted my info until the 20th of Nov. instead of the the week of the 3rd of Nov that they had told me. I since have also talked to some one else that says that they take 4 to 6 weeks to get it thru. Was kind of hoping on an approval from the insurance as a xmas present to myself this year. Going to wait to call insurance company now until after the holidays proably working with a skelton crew now.
Thank you

There seems to be a lot of variability in this, not only between insurance companies, but between different polciies as well as individual cases. Many factors at play, such as your criteria on YOUR policy, what Your bariatric surgeons office submits, if it all gets there etc. Some folks as have already stated get approval in a day, others weeks. Some need to be strong consumers of their own healthcare and make FREQUENT calls back and forth between surgeons office and insurance company to facilitate the process. Other folks get denials and have to fight them. One recommendation would be to keep a written log of all calls with dates/times and who you spoke with! Do you have a copy of YOUR policy and the requirements, have you met them? You are entitled to this just have to ask for copy or exclusions etc.
It surely can be a challenging time waiting! Be well and keep us posted. Yu can wait a few days or you can call today never know what the answer may be! Only thing it costs is a few minutes of your time on the phone!!!
