Help!! 20 Days out-sugars creeping back up!
I guess I am an instant kind of person--I need everything done NOW! LOL So, it's hard for me to wait to see results--plus, I had a big tease with them going down to normal and then back up. I just felt like I was doing things the wrong way or something. My docs didn't seem too concerned yet, soI guess I shouldn't be either. =) I will just hang in there for now and see how it goes in a few days....
Thanks for the advice though--it helps to know that others understand and care!
What part of the island are you from? =)

Diabetes Improves After Obesity Surgery
Gastric Bypass Surgery May Be Realistic Option for Improvement of Diabetes Complications By Jeanie Lerche DavisWebMD Health News
Oct. 6, 2003 -- Gastric bypass surgery -- often a last resort for severely obese people -- can vastly improve diabetes, a new study shows.
Normal Blood Sugar, Fewer Meds
Schauer tracked the patients' weight loss and their diabetes during the five years after gastric bypass surgery. Overall, they lost about 60% of their body fat -- nearly 100 pounds apiece.
The women's fasting glucose levels, an indicator for diabetes, got much better:
- For 83% of the women, glucose levels returned to normal levels; for 17%, there was marked improvement.
- 80% of patients reduced the amount of diabetes medications and 79% required less insulin.
"Even patients with very severe disease, *****quired more than 100 units of insulin every day for more than 10 years, were cured," Schauer tells WebMD.

Open Discussion: Weight Loss Surgery & Diabetes
By: Seth Margolies
Recently, a study was conducted by John B. Dixon, MBBS, Ph.D. from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and published in JAMA comparing Weight Loss Surgery, and conventional medicinal treatments that now exist for Diabetes. Sixty patients were selected who were diagnosed with the disease within two years of the study. The patients, who had a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 to 40, were then randomly assigned either WLS or conventional medicinal treatment. The type of WLS used was gastric banding which is more common in Australia. According to the study, 73 percent of the patients whom had WLS showed no signs of the disease two years out, while only 13 percent of the people treated non-surgically. The patients that had the surgical procedure lost 62 percent of excess weight compared to 4.3 percent excess amongst the non-surgical.
