Dr near Dutchess County
Good evening!
I am seriously considering doing the WLS. I had attended a seminar about a year and a half ago. I had hoped to have done it this past summer, but my almost 85 year old mother broke her hip and had a stroke, then we had a head on accident-so my life got totally put on hold. So here I am again, thinking of stage 1, maybe going to another seminar. First I have to find a Dr around here that holds them, a Dr that does the procedure and a hospital too. I've head they are doing it at St. Francis in Poughkeepsie, but have no information about the Dr there-heard too he used to be with a group down at Westchester Medical.
Any pointing into the right direction would be appreciated greatly.

Hi Nell - I am in Dutchess County and am scheduled for surgery in January. I looked at alot of MDs in the area and finally decided on the Cerabona-Kaul group in Westchester because they do a lot of WLS surgeries and that seems to be a key factor in reduced complications. I have heard that someone is doing a few at St. Francis but I don't know the name. I go to the NDH support group in Rhinebeck on the 1st Tuesday of the month - and someone in that group went to St. Francis. You could some to one of the sessions.

There are no surgeons in Dutchess that peform the Duodenal Siwtch. The closest surgeons that do are in NYC. I'd highly recommend figuring out which surgery you want and then pick the best surgeon at that surgery. If you go to a Ford dealer, they normally don't try to push a brand new Chevy on you, well it's the same in the WLS world. RNY surgeons don't normally promote the lap band or the DS.
Dr. Mitchel Roslin in NYC peforms the Lap band, RNY, DS and the VSG. I went to him because he has a reputation of fixing other surgeon's mistakes. I figured if he could fix another surgeons mess, he could do a good 1st surgey on me. He did!!!
I had the DS with him in Feb 2006, I was almost 500 lbs, I lost to goal weight in 18 months and I've been at my goal weight now for over a year. I currently weigh 193 give or take a lb.
