I am so excited, my insurance approved me in 1 day.  I am almost there Jan 7th.  I just can't believe it.  Now I have met with my clinical Nutritionist ofce and I do not see them again until after surgery and I have my pre=op testing set up (wondering what exactly they do for this) and I meet with my surgeon the same day, i guess to go over the procedure.  I am wondering if there is any pre-op diet, I think someone would have mentioned it to me by now.  I was also wondering if I needed to go out and get any vitamins now so that I have them, if anyone knows what I need to buy, please let me know.  I can't wait to be on the loser's bench with everyone

Hi Cindy,

I had Dr. Singh too.  I had Realize Band surgery a week ago today, 12/1/2008.  Figure spending about 2-3 hours at the hospital for the pre-op tests.  You'll see Dr. Singh first on the 2nd floor.  He'll give you a chance to ask questions.  I wrote them down and took a list with me.

After you see the Doc you have to go down to the first floor near the main enterance to the "Out Patient Registration" (or something like that.)  They'll make copies of your insurance card, get next of kin info, talk to you about a Health Care Proxy, etc.  Then they hand you some papers and send you directly across the hall for your pre-op tests.

There you'll fill out more papers and the receptionist will go over where to park and give you parking stickers.  Get as many as you can for anybody who comes to visit or for the person who rides you.  Parking in D lot is the most convenient.  I had the valets park my truck when I got there on surgery day.  It's a free service.  Also, you're room will probably be on the 4th floor of E wing.  It seemed like most of us were there for weight loss surgery.  My roommate had RNY.

Then you'll talk to a P.A. about meds your on, health history, and so on.  They do and EKG and blood work.  Assuming everything is normal (mine wasn't which required a cardiologist to come down to see me) you can leave.

I ate very lightly the day before surgery--no "last dinners" for me! LOL

Dr. Singh is great!  I have no complaints about him once so ever.  Let me know if you have any more questions.

thank you.  Congrats on your journey, Please stay in touch, your tips have taken the edge off for that day.  I truly appreciate it.  I am sure I won't be doing any last dinners myself.  I can't even think of anything I might miss except pasta.

Please stay in touch, let me know how things are going for you.

thank you, I am glad to hear from you.  My pre-op is Dec 23rd, they told me to be prepared to be there for most of the day.  I have the education class on Dec 18th.  Tonight my husband told me that he wishes that I could not do this, but this is something I need to do for me.  Of course I am now alittle confused about doing this and afraid that I am going to gain weight between now and the surgery.   Thank you gor giving me all the tips, they are greatly appreciated.

I have to say, God bless everyone on OH, becuase of this site, my journey had been made a lot more easy

Pre-op testing was nothing.  They took my blood pressure, history, etc.  I had some sort of leg doppler test were they check for clots that day, too.  I had an endoscope the day before surgery-that was nothing, too.  I was nervous and it was painless and quick (you are drugged :).  There was no pre-op diet (I had the surgery in mid-August), thank God!!!   The day of surgery (mine was in the afternoon) you show up at Albany Med, they get you set up with an IV, extra (they numb you for this, too) and off you go!  The day after surgery was definitely the worst and then after that, it was all uphill.  Good luck.
