Weight Gain After RNY

Hi, I had my surgery Sept 2003. One year after surgery, I lost a total of 140LBS. Then I had a Tummy Tuck done in 2006. I was so happy with all that I did and proud of myself also. I was having a ball enjoying my NEW life.

Then it happened before I knew it some weight started to come back. In total five years later, I have gained a total of about 30LBS back. You might not think it sounds like a lot but it is to me. It seems like it settled in different areas on my such as my back and my thighs. Which by the way I hate hate hate. I always have hated them and they never really seemed to disappear on me either. So now, with the weight gain they even stick out more when I wear my jeans.

The reason for this post is I was wondering if there is anyone else out there that has gained some weight back after being years out.

I know that there are things that I shouldn't be doing such as grazing. I love munching on crunchy things. I always have since the surgery. Pretzels go down so easily. I still dump if I were to eat too much sugar, which I am grateful that I still get that. Keeps me away from certain foods. However, at the same time I can eat two to three cookies and not have a problem. Especially if I eat two to three and wait a little while and then eat them again.

All my blood work is fine. I eat a good breakfast every morning. Then comes lunchtime and to be honest that is when my picking on things start. See I know the problems and I am working on them. What I was wondering is has anyone else gained any weight and if so how much and what are you doing to help yourself.

Oh yeah I do attended my monthly support group meetings and my doctor has a message board that I run for him. I honestly think that doing the two of those things really is what has stopped me from gaining more then what I have.

So, is there anyone else out there gaining?

Ohhhh  Overn here, I am one of those gainers myself though my gain is a little more at 47 lbs!!!  I know that the gain was my fault and I try every day to handle this! Some times it works and other it does not. I was on the right track but then I messed it up Thanksgiving week and gained back the 5 lbs I lost!!!   Well this is something that I have to deal with for the rest of my life! I feel that when i lost the weight and "appeared" to be "normal" that is when I started to have the problems! I let myself think that I did not have to deal with THAT weight issue any longer and well I was wrong, I am an addict and will ALWAYS be so! I guess I am trying to come to terms with that but it is taking time for sure!

Get on top of this now so it does not become more! Post here and keep going to your groups!
Keep us posted and I wish you all the best!

Msmoozy!  How are you?  I havent been on here in a long time and was lurking and had to say hi!  Dont give up!!!  We have done it before and can do it again, it's just like riding a bike right?  I heard about a 5 day pouch test, actually saw it on the May 05 board,  www.5daypouchtest.com
It's suppose to help you "retrain" your body and mind back to the early post op days... i would love to try it but have to ask my dr first... i am 4 months pregnant and my lowest weight was 132 about a year ago, but it crept up to 145 right before i got pregnant, now i'm at 152 and freaking out... i know that there is not really much i can do and dieting is not an option for me, but i need to learn how to eat healthy again... but i have faith in us... lol  please dont give up, you have come so far!!  How is everything?  are you still upstate?

Hi Regina,
Thank you for your post! There are a good deal of us out there who have gained some weight back after WLS. It is an important topic to talk about and get support for. I had my RNY in May of 06, lost 130 pounds and then gained 15 bac****ep losing and regaining 5-7 pounds and it is so frustrating. I also had a tummy tuck about a year ago and while my whole body looks much better, I don't like how I FEEL with the extra 15 pounds! I know what works as far as losing weight, but I just can't stick with it to get all the weight off. I guess the key to success is that you keep trying and doing what you know works: for me it's a low carb diet, daily exercise, and filling my life with things that make me happy, rather than things that make me want to eat!

Stay in touch and let us know how you're doing!
Take care,
Amy
