Hi everybody.  I had my surgery last Tuesday it was open RNY and it went very well.  I go a week from tomorrow to get the 5 staples out from the 4 in*****ision.  It was not all that bad.  My problem is that I seem to be constantly eating (ok drinking) protein drinks takes 2 hours to get all 8 ounces down. then next thing I know I am drinking water then another protein shake. It just seems like I am always putting liquid in my body and I am never hungry but never over full, just right.  But I feel that I am always putting things in my mouth.  I have not been on a scale since before the surgery and I just want things to get exciting now.  Pain was minimal after the second day in the hospital. didnt even take pain meds the day I was released.  And noone told me about the fun of having the drain pump chord pulled out what an odd feeling.  Overall so far it has been a great expereince.  Dr. Carauana was awesome and anyone that is have there surgery done by Synergy bariatrics in Williamsville rest assurred that the nursing staff and all the medical staff on the third floor in the bariatric unit at Sisters hospital are amazing!

Welcome home Nick!
Your post was just what I needed right now. I am going for surgery in the morning and I think I am starting to get nervous. I have heard so many negative stories about pain...it is nice to hear something not so negative. I am glad that you liked Dr. Caruana, I love him. I hope the rest of your recovery continues to get better. Thanks for the post, take care!

Mary

You are amazing!

You will do greatr just press your pain medicine button every 6 minutes and whenever you can get pain meds even if you do not think you need them get them.  Tuesday will be fine for you because you will be so full of drugs from anestesia. wednesday was the worst day for me make it through that day and it just gets better.  and trust me walk as much as you can and do EVERYTHING they tell you to do even coughing every two hours take a cough pillow and a robe.

Congrats, Nick. I know you were worried about changing to the open RNY. I knew you would be fine ... but I understand how you felt like you had the rug pulled out from under you. Glad you are on your way now. You will be SO HAPPY you did this!
And Mary, all the best to you for a great surgery and a quick, easy recovery. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow.

So glad to read that you're doing well Nick!

Your incision was only 4 inches?  I was told over the phone by someone at Synergy that it would be 8 inches...4 sounds MUCH better to me!

Yes I even measured it when I got home it was actually a little under 4 inches.  Dr. carauana starts off at 4 and makes it bigger as needed so it may go up to 8 inches or it may be 8 inches if he finds that your gall bladder needs to be removed as well.

Congrats on having your surgery hun! You are right, now the fun begins... Just keep doing the eating and drinking, it sure feels that way because it takes so long to get anything down but that will stop and you will be feeling so much better! I know it was a weird feeling, I would say I can not do anything else because I am always eating or drinking....

Yeah don't you just love the drain pulled thing....OMG I thought it was an
alien leaving my body!

~hugs~
