Amy,
OH it is so good to see ya hun ~Hugs~ I know we all have to deal with these things and i guess as long as we have each other we can get through this!

You are right about the WLS thing, I could and would not have lost the 135 lbs without it!!! Now I just have to get back to the bacis on using this TOOL!

Thanks hun

Hey Deb nice to hear from you both here and myspace.  Email  me anytime.  Being a 3 year post op er i totally understand.  There are days that i feel like i never had this surgery.  I can eat and eat and eat.  I find espically when i lax in keeping track.....I have to remind myself all the time of what i looked like and felt like before surgery and i never ever want to go back to that place.  I have put on 10 pounds but as i have said before i go up and down with those pounds.  Many foods make me dump or feel ill still to this day so that helps ALOT......i thank God for that every day.  I mess up but it limits me from snowballing all at once.  So i get a chance to regroup.  Support is so important and the same as you , you will see me here more often because we cannot do this alone.  Hang in there, get back to basics ......we are all here for each other.....

LisaMarie,
I know the 10% regain is normal because our systems become used to the way we are now BUT the additional weight is my own fault. You are right about always having to watch what you do and eat, that is just awesome that your sugar thing is still working! I know I can eat way to much sugar without dumping now and I wish that was not the case, that is why I picked the RNY so I can have that "police" with me all the time!

Thanks for the post hun..........

~hugs~

Debra, LisaMarie & Amy --
It's good to see all of you Graduates on here again!! We still have lots to learn from all of you who are farther out than most of us. You are invaluable resource in letting us know what pitfalls are still out there and what we need to do to not let 'em get us!!
You are all doing great. Don't beat yourselves up. You're here to get back on track and we're happy to see you!

Maria,
Hello there hun....... Thanks for your sweet comments, I guess we are all here to help each other and I now know that I need the support of my OH family. I do not have a support group that is local that I can go to so this will be it for me. There is one that is run by a Dr that does the Band and I am not sure how good that will be for my RNY. I might give it a try and see!

Thanks again hun

Hi Debra:

I appreciate the topic of regai after WLS, the honesty is so needed....Consider not blaming yourself or the tool, blame isnot helpful. We can assess where we are at and decide what choices TODSY we want to make...Blame game leads to further shame and sabotage many times keepiing folks stuck....

I post this at times to remind myself and educate others...be well.
THE TRUTH ABOUT REGAIN *THAT NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR!

WLS is a tool, if you eat the wrong foods (carbs/sugar we NEVER EVER malabsorb, digestion/absorbtion of these substances happens starting in the MOUTH!) *ONLY 50% of rnyers dump and thiis is early on do not count on it and the more you test the waters the more your body adapts!*, overfill pouch, graze all day, don't exercise, drink calories, eat and drink togethe, avoid managing our emotions then we can/will regain wt. IT IS still about calories and you can regain wt. WLS is the tool to help us lose wt, PSYCHOLOGY is the tool to help us maintain that loss!

WLS is a tool that should lead us to a LIFESTYLE CHANGE...

How we see & use food. FUEL or SELF SOOTHING
How we keep our bodies active. EXERCISE or INACTIVITY
How we use our brain. EATING TO LIVE VS. LIVING TO EAT

WLS IS NOT MAGIC, IT IS NOT A GET OUT OF MORBID OBESITY JAIL FREE CARD...NO MATTER WHAT THE HONEYMOON HAD US FOOLED INTO BELIEVING! IT IS HARD WORK! PERIOD.

DO NOT RETURN TO DIETS! THEY DIDN'T WORK PREOP AND WON'T POSTOP!

MY 3 FAVORITE MANTRAS:

1.IF YOUR LIFE IS TOO BUSY TO EXERCISE OR TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF THAN YOUR LIFE HAS TO CHANGE! THIS IS NOT SELFISHNESS!

2.PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION!

3.IT IS WHAT WE DO 90% OF THE TIME THAT MATTERS, THINK CONSISTENCY!

I am glad you are looking at the issues and wanting to deal with them! Be proud of yourself for that and you can do it. Now is a great time to start, holidays and parties are always going to happen, we can always find an excuse to wait or a reason why we can't, search within yourself and find a reason why you can and do it (nothing tastes as good as health and thin feel!)!

We have to change our negative self talk, we have to adopt a positive outlook, and accept that it takes A LOT of effort and time to maintain, even a wt loss less than 100%! This is unknown territory for us, no one knows what it takes to maintain, so enjoy the journey and arm yourself with all the knowledge you can!

The bottom line is this: YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE THOUGHT BEFORE YOU CAN CREATE THE ACTION. When all is said and done, change begins with the thoughts you think. So, what do you think? It only takes 100 calories a day to gain 10# in a year, or visaversa 100# calories less a day and we could lose 10# in a year!

CHANGE IS INEVITABLE
STRUGGLE IS OPTIONAL!

Email me I will send my (very large 8MB) powerpoint I did on getting back on track if you want it!

HUGS! I sit here with same 10-20# regain since 2 yrs postop so for me refarming a 20# gain is like no big thing I didnt regain all 157#! I am 6 yrs out and beating the odds we all can together in community! Learning and receiving stregth, hope and support from one another!

Surrender, accept and be greatful is where I am at! (surrendering to the fact that this is a tool, accepting I can not get away without exercies, consistent healhty food choices and emotional management) and gratitude for the challenge to maintain! 6 yrs ago I didn't even have that! HUGE HUGS

Hey Debra

I haven't been around much either.  Life gets in the way sometimes.
I'm sorry to hear you are having such a hard time.  We have tough demons to fight, that's for sure.  You know we are here to support you in any way we can.

You know what you need to do.  Call me if you need to talk.

Me?  I called goal a few pounds ago, but I still want to reach 150 or lower.  I'm wearing size 10's and 12's and I go to the gym 4-5 days a week.  I'm loving the way I feel and being off all my meds.
