Hello. Welcome back to NY! I've lived here most of my life (moved out of state and came back numerous times), but have never heard of Olean until now. Obviously I'm not in "that" area. For only having had your VSG a few months ago you seem to be doing very well! I'm not sure what the statistics are for weight loss with VSG but I am aware that it is not a malabsorbtive wls. Either way 54 lbs is nothing to sneeze at. Obviously you're not sticking with the program because you say that you're doing "terribly lately." I can see how moving along with the normal everyday stressors can cause us to make bad choices. That's how we got here.
I too fight that battle. I'm two months ahead of you (with RNY) but never put a lot of effort into my journaling. I kept a mental spreadsheet running throughout the day to keep track of protein and fluid. It worked in the beginning when I couldn't eat much and those were the only two things I needed to focus on. Just recently I hit a stall. It made me rethink how I am doing things. I've started journaling and pre-planning my food. The first week I focused primarily on keeping track of everything, the following week I reviewed how I did the first week. I noticed that my carbs were higher then they should be (very few bad carbs, but still carbs). I noticed that my calories were much higher then what I think they should be. At that point I looked at the little things I could adjust. By preplanning my meals/day. As I start to feel hungry throughout the day I look at my journa and the time and if there's less then an hour until the next meal I know a new bottle of water is just what I need. It will get me through and increase my fluid (always the hardest part for me). If there is more then an hour or maybe I'm at work and I know lunch time maybe moved out I can have the snack I've planned for the day or just a portion of it to hold me over.
The scale has yet to move but I do not feel "bad" about my choices. I know I'm doing what I need to now and the stall will break when my body is ready.
I apologize if this is a bit wordy or rambled. It is still early and I'm just clearing out the cob webs this morning.

I don't live in Olean, however, I am in Liverpool (upstate NY near Syracuse) I would love to be your friend. I need all the help and encouragement I can get also.
Anytime you need me, I'm here for you. You are not alone. I had lap-Rny on 9/10/08 so I am new to this all, but would love to help you out.
