Cottage cheese i remember hating when i was a kid now its not so bad. But her in lies my question i want tuna its on my ok list but how do i prepare it to be really moist??? Also it says i can have 1/4 banana and i would love that i figure i can mu**** and i have thought i could add some peanut butter for added protein is that ok????? trying to get as much protein in with my small amounts of food as possibe as i have yet to find a protein that odesnt gag me. i actually drank a medifast shake toay sad i know but it was better than the gross protein i bought at GNC any advice on all this would be great. thanks
Hi,
Congratulations!
I had my surgery on June 2 and I still can't eat fi****'s an individual thing, I think, but you may want to wait a while for tuna.
As far as peanut butter. I dunno. I wouldn't do it so soon.
How about soft boiled egg? I found eggs went down easy and they have a lot of protein. I also liked cheese, although some nutritionists say it has too much fat. Beans were something else I could tolerate early on.
Hope this helps. Maybe others have other suggestions.

Congrats on graduating from liquids!!! Here comes the fun part! Keep in mind that what works today may not work tomorrow - it's the nature of the beast!! Go slow & everything will be just fine!!
I loved cottage & ricotta cheeses - I lived on them & lately I have gone back to them!!
I did tuna with a bit of low-fat mayo to keep it moist.
Refried beans with a little melted cheese & the liquid from the salsa no chunks yet!
Careful of the banana & peanut butter. I had a hard time w/ bananas for a long time - they sat there like a rock!! PB is dense as heck - go very slow with it!!
How about a softly scrambled egg w/ a bit of shredded cheese?
Along the same lines as tuna they have that canned chicken that could work too - again w/ a little low-fat mayo or heck even some fat free gravy!!
Egg salad could work too.
Canned salmon, if you like it. (keep an eye on the sodium levels on these canned items too... just a thought. I used them with no problems!)
Did they give you a canister of Beneprotein? They gave it to me to add to my foods in the beginning. It's ok but you have to mix it in carefully!! I added it to mashed potatoes & even cream of wheat. I didn't have them often cus they're starches but it was one of the few ways I could tolerate that protein powder. It was their recommendation. I cannot tolerate any of the other protein powders at all & i don't use them I get all of my protein from my food & do pretty well at it now. You'll get there & it's a good idea not to rely on the drinks!
I know there are lots of other ideas out there but I'll be darned if I can think of them. Stick with the basics for now... go with what works!!
Good luck!! If you need anything, holler!!!

Hey there! congrats on ur surgery and movin on up on the food chain!. sorry i havent been around, lotsa stuff happened in my life.. anyways how r u? how'd it go? are u able to sleep a lil better?
tuna didnt go well for me, neither does fresh salmon, but canned salmon, u can make into a very moist burger and have it. just add lots of lime/lemon juice to it with LF mayo
like "phatty" said ricotta and tomato sauce tastes real good, like lasagna. pb well, i didnt do bad with it, but i would only lick the spoon, and had it liquid form before swallowing it. banana i did ok, but it can get stuck and it is real heavy in the pouch.. maybe add it to ur protein drink? i would actually dump and get real dizzy if i added it to my drinks, but diff ppls diff strokes, ya know?
good luck!!!

I'd recommend one new food at a time per meal or even dayor two....
Tuna mix it in magic bullet or a minichopper like pate and add mayo to make moist....I used regular we malabsorb fat.....
PB is dense and may be a challenge, bananas not my choice as protein content zilch, sugar content high (I know small amount but slipper slopes were my fear).....
Medifast aint the worst thing........do what you ahve to to heal with the protein!
I sent lots ricotta recioes to keep u busy a week or two! I ate teh same thing over and over for months!

Congrats on graduation to mushie foods! I reached mushie a couple days ago. I was told cottage cheese is great. a lot of protein. I hated it when I was a kid too. But now it's great.
unsweetend applesauce is good. those speuritin shakes from GNC someone told me about. Banana I believe. I have to buy it. I have been eating yogurt also which has protein. I would like to know what other foods have the highest amount of protein. i have to go buy a book. I was told ricotta cheese is good. Have to buy that. Pudding is good and jello. Instant oatmeal is good also. It's a little thick but nothing has bothered me yet. I feel like I am getting a little hungrier as each day goes on. I have to wait a couple of weeks to get my first fill. idn about the peanut butter. It might be fine now since your band is not tightened yet. I think that when you get a fill it will be harder to get down b/c it is so think.
have you heard any other good tips?
Tina

Just started my "baby food" stage this past week, and am as lost and frustrated as you are. Tons of searching on the web has brought me lots of recipes for the next stage, but sadly no help for any suggestions on the pureed stage. BTW, my surgery was September 29, but due to a nasty infection which put me back in the hospital via the ER, I might be a bit behind on food scheduling.
Would love to know how you had your ricotta cheese and marinara sauce though! Love and miss Italian things. :o) As for protein powder, I have to get some ASAP myself, and am going to check out the links posted here on the NYS message board for samples in response to a "Protein" question. My PCP is also selling Bariatrix brand proteins and products now, so might give his a try ... if the price is right!
Here's a few things I have found to my liking, and more importantly, my tiny tummy's liking:
* 1/4 banana is one of my favs! I just mash mine with the cool baby spoon I bought at Wally World. Tastes soooo good to have fruit again!
* Two tablespoons instant (PLAIN) oatmeal with a 'dab' of smooth peanut butter. I use about 1/2 tsp of the peanut butter, but it makes the plain oatmeal yummy, and they both seem to soothe my tummy. (Peanut butter is on the very small list of ideas the hospital dietitian gave to me)
* Two tablespoons original egg beaters with a "pinch" of grated cheddar cheese. Like before, so good to have eggs and cheese again! I use my little "Nuby" brand baby spoon to get a small portion of the egg and cheese at a time and chew, chew, chew ....
* Jello brand jello's in a cup of course are hold Iver's from the liquid diet days, and love eating a whole cup of something. (LOL) -- However, on the pudding cups, resist the same temptation! Using the tiny spoon really helps me to savor one tiny spoon of Jello pudding at a time, and as for portion size, I keep it to 1/3 of their serving cup on most flavors. On the Dulce de Leche (my fiance bought it for me, I would have stayed away!) though, I take off all that syrup looking stuff on the top -- looks too stomach wrenching to me. Since that caramel looking stuff equals almost 1/3 of their serving, I have about 1/2 of what's left.
* Most soups (shy away from any rice and most with pasta for now) aren't bad pureed, so I've been enjoying them from time to time.
* Roasted chicken & cheese pureed with a dab of Light/FF mayo! Yes, that's right, chicken salad -- Yum city! I used a recipe from a Bariatric/RNY Bypass list of cool recipes on line to roast a small chicken in a cooking bag with garlic cloves and "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" (ICBINB) to where it literally fell off the bones. Not only are there some wonderful meals left out of it for my perfect weight (sigh) fiance, but several meals for me too. What I did was take 2 ounces of the white meat (no skin of course), a pinch of cheese (I used cheddar again, my fav), and a drop or two of the light/fat free mayo. I ran that around in the processor with a few bits of seasonings, and it was such a nice change from the few things I'd done already!
* Enjoy the veggies you couldn't have before too, like creamed corn, carrots, peas, etc. (I am still longing for the day I can once again have Brussels sprouts though!) Two tablespoons, and most will smush up just fine with a regular fork, or even a baby spoon.
* I did manage 2 T. of regular cheerios, allowed to soften in a small amount of skimmed milk, but to be honest, skim milk really sucks! LOL
* Love pureeing fruit and fruit cups (in natural or very light, drained liquid) to have a few tablespoons of too.
Still trying to come up with the best method for doing a two tablespoon serving of mashed potatoes. I know there's the Country Crock ones, and others, but the added ingredients in them are usually a no-no! However, a nurse at the hospital told me a different kind of pureed item equaling or even surpassing taters -- Cauliflower! She said to steam the cauliflower to a soft consistency, then drain any liquid, adding a tad bit of broth, your seasonings, and a spray or two of "ICBINB." She said it is very close to mashed potatoes, but of course better for you. As for protein, I guess milk could be used instead of broth, but choose your own path.
Sorry, that's not much, but maybe it will give you a few added items. We all need to pool our favorites and post an entire "baby food/mushees" forum!
Hugs ~ Suzanne
P.S. Just remembered, I never answered your tuna question! Interestingly enough, I have tried tuna once myself, without much success taste or consistency wise. What I did was similar to the above roast chicken and cheese, except I didn't try it with cheese. I put the tuna -- Bumble Bee white tuna in water from a pouch -- into the food processor with some garlic powder, dill, black pepper and a few grains of Kosher salt, then added a small squeeze (tsp & 1/2?) of Light mayo. The light or fat free mayo is on my RNY list from the dietician by the way. Seems like I had to add a drop or two more of the mayo, which I was afraid to -- not only for the allowance amt. reason, but I personally don't care much for the taste of the particular light/ff mayo we have right now. It's not Kraft, which I prefer! *g* Anyway, it was okay I suppose, but just not "right" for some reason. Plus, after a few of my small baby spoon bites, it was as if my stomach was beginning to turn, so I stopped eating. Since that failed attempt I have come across numerous comments from bariatric patients in my online recipe searching about tuna being the main food giving them trouble in the early stages -- odd, isn't it? Let us know here though if you try it, and what works for you!
