still hurting

Hi, everyone!  I'm new to this forum, sorry, my first post is a complaint/problem!  I have a question for everyone.  My surgery was 9/24/08.  Since day 1 swallowing anything hurts (the closest I can describe the pain is it feels a little like whatever I'm swallowing doesn't fit in my pouch, bounces off and then floats around hitting all over my insides).  The first few days the pain was excruciating.  While I was still in the hospital they did a barium x-ray to rule out blockage.  Nothing was seen.  Then they thought maybe it was the drains/tubes causing the problem.  Those were removed and I still had the problem.   Then they decided it was swelling and would go away with time.  It actually isn't always excruciating anymore, although it does almost always hurt.  I know I haven't given it a lot of time, but it's starting to hurt just because I stand up now, not only when I eat.  Someone suggested popsicles thinking that would act like an ice pack, that doesn't seem to work.  As a matter of fact, cold things seem to make it worse.  I'm living on warm broth and room temp water and I dread taking that.  Pepcid AC helped a little bit, but has stopped helping.  Lortab also helps a little with the pain when I just stand up, but not when I eat/drink.  I'm still taking 7 pills for my regular medication from my life before surgery and I find myself avoiding that and my vitamins because the water hurts.   Did anyone else have this problem?  Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?  I'm already wishing for scrambled eggs or mashed potatoes but if this keeps up that doesn't seem like a possibilty for months!  I'm finding it hard to stay upbeat about this decision, it feels like it will hurt forever.  Please....has this happened to anyone in the beginning?  Anything I can do about it?  Will it stop?

Like I said, sorry my first post is whining, I'm getting very discouraged.  Thanks for any help/advice!

Maybe you should call your surgeon and explain that it isn't getting any better.  In fact, seems to be getting worse.  It shouldn't hurt to swallow water without something not being right.  That is my opinion anyway.  Don't be afraid to ask questions here, that is what everyone is here for.  The only dumb questions is the one not asked.  This is a perfect site to ask questions.  Hope you are feeling better and keep us updated.

No need for apologies we are here for the good bad and ugly..no journey is perfect!
I would recommend calling my surgeon and getting seen, this is not typical IMHO...some discomfort as hot liquids may soothe a swolen pouch, could be another issue such as ulcer etc......please keep us posted, dehydration can make it worse sip as best u can, I know it may be challenging to get int he vits but they are oh so ever important for your health and healing!
