Not happy! Just don't want to eat!!

I'm 6 weeks out from surgery.  Things have gone pretty well for the most part.  I'm right at 35 pounds lost, which puts me just under half of what my surgeon says he thinks I should loose.  I guess considering that I was a bit of a "light weight", 35 at 6 weeks is a pretty decent number.

My problem is that since about 4 weeks or so, I'm finding it sooo hard to eat.   If I could just drink my liquids all day long I would be as happy as ever.    I've been cleared to eat pretty much everything except steak and raw veggies at this point.. yet NOTHING looks/sounds good.   I stand in front of the fridge and cabinets just staring and no idea what I want to eat.  Even though I'm well prepare with all kinds of  good pre-op foods..  I get sick just thinking about food.  I have no interest in it at all.    I'm finding that I start to "freak out" a bit when it comes to be 1:00 or 2:00 and I know I HAVE to eat something for lunch.. (I have a protein shake for breakfast it takes me 8:30-10:30 to fini****)   I've yet to find anything I enjoy or want to eat.    I actually broke down last night crying to my husband how hard this is.    Why can't I eat?   Why is something that used to be so easy, now so hard to do.

It's at a point that I actually feel like I will throw up if I eat anything.  I think it may just be my nerves that builds up to it.. so that when I actually sit down, after the 2nd or maybe 3rd small bite of something I'm already feeling sick.   I did bring this up to my surgeon on Monday when I saw him for a follow up..  he gave me a prescription for a med that helps the nausea that I should take before I want to eat..   It's not helping at all.  I almost think it makes me feel even more nausea when I take it.   :(

Anyone else dealing with this?   If so how?   I know at one point when I was on the liquid and then the mush diet I couldn't wait to eat "real" food..  now it's a daily fight to MAKE myself eat..

Be proactive about this and keep talking to your doc. Try mushies and soft stuff first, in little bits...even if it's not what you "want." You've had a major change to your body and it needs time to adjust. Things will be much different now from what they were before. As long as you are able to keep food down you just have to keep trying different things and talking to your doc.

Keep us posted,

My appetite was very suppressed at first.  Just make sure you try to get your protein in.  It will get better.  I had nausea in the morning when I got up...my doctor suggested a couple of crackers...and this helped.  I think its your body adjusting...keep plugging.
