Hey

I live in the Syracuse area. I didn't get to choose my Dr It was just done for me. I can't find anything out about him.  Don't get me wrong I met him and he seemed very nice. It would just make me feel better if i could talk to some of his post- op patients to see how they are doing.

    Thanks Faith

I have doctor Simon too. I think he's a wonderful man. I haven't had the surgery yet but I wanted to let you know I have him. We're aiming for surgery for me between Jan and March I'm guessing what with all the pre-op stuff. Have you attented any support groups yet? I am going to the Liverpool one soon, this will be my first time,....I was not sure if you lived in this area of Syracuse or not....

Well good luck! I don't think we have anything to worry about with Dr. Simon, I knew from the moment I met him that he knows his stuff!

Hi Electric Lime

I have been to a support group. They are at the CNY Bariatric Center almost right beside University hospital in Syracuse.

I am at the end of all my testing and am waiting for the Insurance companies go ahead.  Dr Simon said he would appeal it if they denied.

So here I wait doubting myself the more I read. I know the surgery will change my life and I am willing to take it on. It is the surgery part and the what if complications that scare the heck outta me. I have 3 kids and they need me.

The support group is at the Institute for Human performance the second monday of each month. I guess there are lots of people there who have had Dr Simon do their surgery.

There are actually 2 groups Now on for RNY  and one for GB.
Maybe I will see you there Faith

Thanks for replying! I actually feel the same way as you for everything. I am so nervous and scared but at the same time, I know if I don't do this, I'll end up with a lot more health problems than I have now.

The risk of the surgery scares me, but Dr. Simon told me that its just about the same as most surgeries, plus if we follow things exactly, we should be ok.

The Syracuse support groups- I am going to attend the N Syracuse one this Tuesday night. This will be my first one. I am nervous because I don't know anyone haha. Did he give you a little paper where the leader has to sign? You also have to have three of them signed before they can submit to the insurance....so I have to start going this week as I only have one more day of testing to go through on October 13- my ekg and my blood tests. Oh yeah and the Dr. has to write me a letter of medical necessity too but after t hat the support groups are all I have left. I had my physch eval this past week...

Let me know if you ever wanna talk. I am on AIM, and my personal email is [email protected]

I know we're both in the same boat right now, and with the same Dr. we may even be having this done around the same time!!! Please- don't hesitate to get in touch!!!

I live in Syracuse too.  I didn't have my surgery with Dr. Simon but I have heard great things about him from his post op patients.  There is a support group meeting at University Hospital the second Monday of every month if you're interested.  Good luck!

Faith, I went to the CNY Bariatric Surgery Center and although I did not have Dr. Simon(I had Dr. Cunningham instead) I know several who have had him as a surgeon.  He's a great surgeon and I believe that he is head of the trauma surgery unit at Upstate as well.  You don't get that kind of job without being a really great surgeon.  You chose well in going to the CNY Bariatric Surgery Center.  Everyone there is great and very helpful, I always look forward to my appts. there and seeing the nut Carrie and Marcy the NP.  Good luck with everything and we're here in case you have any other questions.  If you can get to a support group meeting you'll probably meet several people post-op and pre-op who have had Dr. Simon.

Hi, Faith. I go to the CNY Bariatric Center too although Dr. Simon wasn't my Doctor. My support group leader and a few support group patients had him as a doctor and they rave about him. My group leader is 3+ years post op and is doing great and he didn't have any complications. He is very experienced.

Good luck!

Hi Faith - I had my surgery on 8/20 and had Dr. Cunningham.  However, Dr. Cunningham has left the Syracuse area and I was then referred to Dr. Simon for follow up care and he is now my new doctor.  I met him and found him to be very professional, but easy to talk with, he answered all of my questions and even interjected a bit of humor . I know of many who had him do their surgeries and all had no complications and are successful.  I agree with the comments by Dee Bunny -the bariatric center would not have any surgeon who was not top notch.  I truly believe they have a great program going there and Kerry the nut, and Marcy the NP are knowledgeable about all types of the surgeries and what to expect and will guide you and follow up with you throughout the whole process.
I think you have made a good choice in choosing here and I will reiterate what Dee bunny says-in that we are all here for you if you need us - hope this helps - I know this forum certainly helped me with many of my questions.   Mary (Molly P)
