Kebbier,

Yes, being terrified is normal (a maybe a good sign), you will be having surgery, something you don't experiece everyday.   Many people here on OH have a point post op of what did I do to myself also, but this is short lived and then they realize that it was the smartest decision they ever made.  Most people, myself included, have only one regret and that is that they did not have the surgery much sooner.

As far as getting back to normal.  If you define normal as your current lifestyle, I really don't think so.  Your life is going to change, in so many ways, as so many of ours have (very much for the better).  The changes in my life are:

1.   I have had success at loosing weight.  I am exercising at the gym 5 days a week and most likely in better shape than I have been since I was in school.
2.  I am eating a healthier diet than I have in such a long time.  Do I look at junk food and think how good it would taste?  Yes, but I don't want to go back to the way things were.
3.  I am more confident and get so much more enjoyment from my life.  the basics of life don't change (your pre-op problems will still be there as well as the best things in your life), but I feel like I get the most enjoyment possible out of my everyday life.
4.  I feel so good about myself and my outlook on my life is much more positive than it was prior to making this decision.

As far as complications no one can promise you won't have a complication, if they do they are lying to you.  But realize, the complication rate for Laproscopic RNY is very low.  I was told lower than having your gallbladder removed.   Since you are going to the Ellis Bariatric Center, I am going to assume that you have lost 10% of your weight through the pre-op liquid diet.  Loosing this weight has had a tremendous effect on making you healthier to undergo surgery.  (They don't have you lose weight just to see if you are serious it is to reduce your risk during surgery).

I am confident you will do well and just remember everyone here is available for support.  We know what it is like to be having surgery and how it feels.

Good Luck,

Jim

Relax and pray for the best.  Only a small percentage get those complications.  If you picked an experienced surgeon you elimiinate some of the risks.  Good Luck!
