Support Group in Liverpool, NY

Hi guys! I'm a newbie here, so just kind of looking around to see what's what. I am currently in the process of getting all my appointments in in order to submit everything to my insurance company. I have to attend three support group meetings before I can be submitted, and I am about to go to one soon. I was given a paper at the doctors (my Dr. is going to be Howard Simon)- it I am going to attend my first meeting at the Liverpool location on the 25th.

I'm looking forward to these meetings. I just was wondering if any of you go to that location and what happens when you're new. Also, I have a small sheet that needs to be signed for each meeting I attend. I am not going to only go to three and that's it. After I have the surgery I plan on going as much as I can because I know that it's not an easy journey- I can tell this already. How ever, I have been overweight my entire life, and it's time I put an end to this once and for all.

I can't wait to meet some of you and any feedback would be appreciated. I was told that we meet at the Hampton Inn on Route 31...hopefully that is correct! (I was told by a friend that's had the surgery already)

I just wanted to let you know that you've chosen a wonderful surgeon.  I attend support group meetings for the same bariatric center in New Hartford and sometimes in Camden and you're very fortunate to be in this great newtwork of support that they provide.  I've never been to the Liverpool location, but I just wanted to wish you luck.

thanks so much! I appreciate it! Dr. Simon is a wonderful man, I could tell right from the informational meeting that my fiance and I attended that he spoke at. When I met him one on one, this just confirmed it for me. The whole staff is very helpful and nice. It definitely makes me feel more at ease at this is a big step for me!

I just wanted to say Hi and congrats on taking the step to have the surgery.  I used to attend the Liverpool meeting religiously, but now that I am further out, I don't find it as helpful for me anymore as it was before I had surgery and just after I had surgery.  I have the email address of the leader if you would like it, you can email me privately for it.  I know they are working on changing the locations, so give me a shout, i'll pass the info on :)  they will sign your form for you as well.

Just remember, they require 3 meetings, but you learn everything from the group.  Things directly from other patients.  Things that Marcy, and even the surgeons cannot answer for you.  So go with an open mind and remember to ask questions. :)

thanks so much, your reply was very helpful to me! I will send you a message on here and go ahead and get that email address for the support group leader because I do remember hearing that they switched locations as well from a coworker who had the surgery.

I am sure that I will attend much more than three meetings. This is going to be a huge change for me, and I know it'll help to have lots of new friends that are going through the same things as I am. After all , they don't call it a "support" group for nothing :)
