I have had some abd pain that has increased in intensity. It started thursday & being the RN that I am, I figured it was gas (cause I was gassy) & bough gas x which didnt' help too much... it got so bad that it woke me up sunday am & i was in tears... called my md who told me to go to er... ( don't they always say that

anyway, after 14 hours in the A unit of AMCH ER, dilaudid x4, zofran & benadryl, hypaque contrast, an abd ct scan, bedside ultrasound , 3 liters of IVF, & host of bloodwork to rule out pancreatitis & liver problems, Dr valarian (colo-rectal surgery) came to me & said I was full o' sh*t!!! BUT, likely not the only problem.... he is thinking I have an ulcer/ stricture (please explain the difference!!) & since it hurt to drink anything, eat, i likely became constipated... Anyway, i have to follow up with my surgeon or the group here at AMCH...& will likely need an upper GI series or an Endoscopy or both... uggg...I begged them not to admit me (they had the bed all set on C-2!!) & I would follow up as outpatient...so here I am at home, minus lots o' poop & less pain, though over night I was awakened again by intense abd pain & thought I won myself another trip back to the ER!!!!! (I took some ranitadine & it helped- likely confirming the suspicion of an ulcer)...

my question to ya'll is this, has anyone here experienced this before?? Please do share... I am 7 months out from surgery and have lost all but about 8-10 lbs of excess weight.,.,. I WAS doing very well & now feel as though I have failed!!!!

I had the same problem when I was 7 months out. Couldn't eat or drink anything for about 4 days. Finally I called the dr and went to have an endo the next day and mine was an ulcer. I was put on Nexium and Zantac. The Nexium was an instant relief. I thought the same thing about just being gas but when it didn't go away I figured it was more than that. The pain was the same as you are explaining. Hope this helps. You have done nothing to fail. II was on prilosec when I developed mine. so it just is something that happens.

thanks for your post... THough it blows that you had to go through that, I am comforted by knowing there are others who experienced the same thing (relatively minor situation in the grand scheme of it all, eh?). I will continue with my ppi & ranitadine until i can get appt with endo..
