I am going to see Dr Rosati and I know that he basically does open procedures.  Has anyone had a Lap RNY with him?  Any other comments would be helpful - Nice? - not nice? Good bedside manner?  No bedside manner?  What ever - anything would be helpful.

Thanks
Marilynn

I don't know about if he does open or lap, but I have a friend who had him and she loves him. He did her original surgery and also she unfortunately had to have it reversed several years later (nothing due to the surgery, she was ill).  She said she has all of the faith in the world in him.

All he did was open, not comfortable with the Lap equipment but I heard he may be changing his mind and retrying.

He is an excellent surgeon, very strong on having patients making educated and informed decision, firm with his requirements, and pushes postop lifestyle change esp. exercise.

Excellent reputation, grat bedside manner per hundreds of postops I have met in support group (as member and facilitator).

I wish you well. Jamie

Hi !
Dr. Rosati did my RNY almost 6 weeks ago. I love him. He scares you a little when you first meet him because he tells you the good, the bad and the ugly to make sure you want to have surgery. It is a HUGE decision! I love his personality. He has done about 25-30 lap procedures (he does them with Dr. SIngh to learn the equipment better- so I wouldn't worry), but I chose to have open because I figured I don't care if I have one longer scar (mine is 5 1/2 inches) or 4-5 small ones all over my stomach. I also had 2 close friends that had problems with lap procedures with other dr's locally and I decided if I am doing it- I want to make sure seeing isnt a problem. (Although hundreds of thousands of people have had lap RNY with no problems) I did not have to have a drain, which lap patients tell me really sucks. I was also in less pain believe it or not than 3 people I talked to in the hospital the first 2 days. Everyone's experience with surgery is different no matter what procedure they have I have learned.
Other things I love about Dr. Rosati- he visited me every day in the hospital, plus his intern came seperatey to check on me every day. He spent almost 40 minutes with me individually at the initial meeting AND the first appt after surgery- what doctor takes the time to do that???
Anyway- good luck! I will be at the support group at AMC this Thurs 5:30 if you want to join us!

Thanks Heather
I have made the decision that I am not going to go with Dr Dunnican.  I rethought Dr Dunnican and he may be wonderful but he has done so few since going out on his own, that I want someone with more experience.

I saw the presentation that is on the AMC webside and Dr Rosati was so honest about his patients and why he was just doing open at that time.  I really liked him then.  I called his office and the girls got a copy of my chart and called me back with an appt with him on Sept 12.  She said that there is a one hour education session with him first and then a regular doctor-patient session after.   She also really encouraged me to bring my husband with me.  I knew it was OK but no one had ever actually said that before.

I want to be at the support meeting this Thursday but I am not sure that I can make it.  I have an appt with my pulmonologist in Oneonta and my husband has an appt in Albany at the VA.  We live in Delaware County.  We may just be doing too much driving around for one day.  Are you up for next week?  That would be easier.

Thanks again.
