Problems at NYU

Hi,

Has anyone had an experience with Nilsa, the surgical coordinator, at NYU.  I can't seem to get her to give me two minutes to schedule my surgery.  She has all the documentation for the insurance company, but I can't get her to just take the time to give me the surgery date.  There's always an excuse and she says she'll call me back.  She never does and when I call her, she can never stay on the phone!  It's so frustrating!

She's one of the many reasons I refused to deal with NYU and why I was blessed to find Dr Roslin.

Good luck!

I was banded at NYU on 7/7/08 and you are in good hands!  Fortunately, I did not have to deal with Nilsa but have heard others complain about her.  I dealt with Asia, another surgical coordinator and had a few issues with her.  (Insist to)Talk to  MARYANNE, the office manager. I got my insurance paperwork pushed through immediately!   After that, everything has gone pretty smoothly.  Operation, post-op visits and fills.  They also have satelite offices to get your fills.  I live in Westchester and it makes it easier for me.  (Feel free to PM me, I am a Bioniclemom, too!)

Thank you very much for your reply!   I will keep Maryanne in mind.  So far my date is 9/15, if Nilsa puts the insurance in on time.  I'm so excited!

Are you talking about this Nilsa? >> http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/missnilsa/

Maybe drop her a note?

I don't think it's the same Nilsa, is it?  I did see one come up, but didn't think it was the same one.

I have no idea.

Her profile says she had surgery at NYU and it's not exactly a common name.

The office staff leaves something to be desired. I felt very confident in Dr. Ren's abilities, so I dealt with the office staff, but it is something that they need to work on. Nilsa wasn't the surgical coordinator when I was scheduling my surgery and dealing with insurance, but the person I had was no better about returning my phone calls and it was very frustrating.

I heard really bad things about NYU and the staff and that it is just a factory that doesn't really care for their patients.  I chose Dr. Shawn Garber on Long island and he is awesome with the best office staff.  You should definitely like the office staff because you are a life long patient.

I have to disagree with Johnathan.  I am a patient of Dr. Ren's and couldn't have been happier with her and the office staff.  I traveled from upstate to get to my appointments and they worked hard to get me in and out at all of my visits.  It is a busy doctors office, but I never once got the feeling or impression that I was part of a factory.  From Dr. Ren, to the PA, to Tammy, to Dr. Kurian, I had as good of an experience as I could have hoped for.

For me, all of the other stuff is secondary.  Give me the gifted surgeon every time.
