Can you even seriously be eatting that kind of stuff only one month out?   I think at a month out my surgeon still has us on mushed up foods.. cottage cheese type stuff.  I wouldn't think at a month out you would be able to tolerate any kind of  "jerky"..   Then again I could be totally wrong.

Funny thing.. but I was just litereally looking for that stuff myself.  I'm four days from RNY and I've been on liquid diet 1.5 weeks. I'm starting to have slight "melt-downs" due to the fact that I'm finding that I can't keep any of the protein shakes down. I'm starting to worry that maybe I shouldn't have the surgery because I won't be able to get my protein in and then I'll have deficiency problems. :(

I've tried so many over the last 2 weeks. They are ok for the first 2 or 3 sips, than by sip number 4 i'm gagging and I've just wasted a whole shake because I dump it down the sink. I try to talk myself through it, but I don't know what it is. I just can't do it. :( I don't know if it's the consistency or what but none of them want to stay down. I've tried so many flavors.. Even bought a container of the NOW unflavored for $20 for a small 1lb container, and still it just doesn't want to go down after the first 3 sips, no matter what I have it mixed with.   So I don't think it's the taste.. I am able to tolerate the slim fast high protein with skim milk pretty well, as long as it is ice cold. But I worry that it will be too much sugar after surgery, so right now I'm not counting on that as an option.

People keep recommending the nectar (juice flavored) stuff..  I found this place that offers samples of it.

http://www.enjoyhealth.com/samples.htm

I'm tempted to give them a try, with shipping it's about $30  for the 12 sample pack.. it's pretty steep but  My husband is likely to shoot me if he comes home to another tub of powder in the pantry that only has one scoop missing from it.  I have EAS, Designer, NOW, Champion.. ect.   I've spent more on protein powder in the last two weeks than I have on the whole surgery process so far..

If anyone is willing to send a scoop of the nectar to try I'll send postage paid envelope!!

Nanette, you're cute!  Yes, venison is considered red meat.  I think the reason they say no red meat is because people have a hard time chewing it and getting it down.  They are afraid it will get stuck.  I was confused about why my doc said no pork - unless it's because it's too dry.  However, he must have never had it the way my husband prepares it, cuz it's nice and juicy when he cooks it!

I Googled "Nectar protein drink" for you and here's just one link I came up with:

www.enjoyhealth.com/nectar.htm

I'm sure there are plenty other places to get it.  You just have to look online.  Google is my best friend.  Good luck!

Things like beef & pork can be very fibrous (not sure if that's the right word but it's how I describe it) & tough to digest. I know it gets boring but I stick with turkey, chicken & lots of fish even though I have no problems with beef or pork. I do slip some in as a treat every now & then - I do love pork chops & applesauce after all & I make my applesauce from scratch - no sugar!!

I'd be careful with jerkies only because you have to chew the living daylights out of it & if you don't it can be painful. I haven't even ventured down that road yet & I'm 9 months out.

Try marinating chicken in things like Newman's Own Lighten Up dressings - my favs right now are the Lime Vinaigrette & Balsamic Vinaigrette. The Lime is light & refreshing & I always seem to have a bottle on hand!! Make kabobs with the chicken (or turkey) & veggies. I grill them on my George Forman grill only because I live in a apt & open flame grills are a huge no-no!!!! I just made baked chicken with the lime dressing last weekend for my family & even my 4 & 6 yr old nieces loved it!! Who knew?!!!

Venison is good later down the road because it is so low in fat. I have had it & love it but I am lucky that none of the meats seem to give me a hard time. I've even had baby grilled lamb chops but that is a rarity because of the fat content. Give it time - you'll be able to have these things in a few months but for now I'd say be creative with the poultry & fish just to be on the safe side!!

Good luck!!

Ok here I sit retyping this for a 3rd time (grrr)

Jerky is rough and tooough on a new pouch, chewing ans spitting is not recommended, high in sodium as well. i'd avoid it.

Venison is a red meat but you could cook in well in a crock pot soft/tender like and try? (*I wouldn't for 3 mo or so though postop!)

Nectars are the fruity drinks, the carribean cooler, fuzzy navel and apple are good IMHO, I didnt like cherry or the blue sky fruit punch, lemonade is ok, and my hubby non wlser liked cappuchino kind..

ISOPURE at GNC is $3-4 bottle unles son sale but many like it is ready to drink like koolaid one bottle 40g proteins o 2 servings worth!

http://www.bariatriceating.com/retodrprrt.html

Bariatric eating mas many RTD varieties such as the whey bullets 3 oz serving! for 42 grams is 2 servings in one!

New Whey Protein BulletsThe achieve ones many love like coffee..pricey though!AchievOne I used and liked Worldwide protein RTC cans in  a pinch esp. banana! Worldwide Pure Protein ShakeOther options, rolled think deli meats, cheeses, cheese stick, laughing cow cheese spread, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese (wnat recipes emial me!), alternative meats like the soy TVP morningstar farms, harvest, gardenburger, boca makes, all sorts of 'fake' meats such as chicken beef crumbles, sausage, bacon etc, veggie burgers as well. Tofu is tolerated by many sauteed with any flavor.Eggs softly scrambled with cheese, or soft poached in water/runny many say is better. Tunasalad, chicken salad moist! Egg salad, seafood salad, shrimp and seafood may settle as mosit fish (Salmon, haddock not overcooked!) a ounce or so. Chille for many works 1/4 c +/- per serving. add cheese on top.  potted meats for some are okay...Anywhey protein is flavorless (avail at GNC for many folks) and can be added to things such as broth. Some do protein hot like hot cocoa, coffee maker temperature only not hotter, peanut or nutbutters sometimes work as do refried beans with cheese!....

Protein Ball Recipe

1 cup of protein powder (chocolate or vanilla)
1 cup of non-fat dry milk
1 cup of rice crispy cereal
1 cup of peanut butter
Splenda to taste
Cocoa powder mixed with Splenda

Add the Protein Powder, Dry Milk, Cereal and Peanut Butter in a mixing
bowl. Mix thoroughly making sure that all the dry milk is in the mix and
not really visible. If you like it really sweet, add some more Splenda to
fit your taste. Form the mixture into small balls (about 1.5 inches in
diameter) Roll in the cocoa/Splenda mix. Refrigerate.

Each ball has about 10 grams of protein

Be well.
