Hey Everyone,

I live in Patchogue, Suffolk County LI.  My RNY surgery date is Aug 18th and I am looking forward to this.  My Dr.'s office has support group meetings which I attend but I don't feel are as helpful as a private one would be.  I am looking to start a local WLS support group in suffolk county.  We pick the topics have an alternative to the one day a month meeting our Dr's offer and there is no pressure, we can be open and honest and not jazz things up because the Dr. or his staff is listening.  Please let me know if anyone is interested... I am just tired of driving an hour plus, in traffic,  struggling to park, walking past people who have never seen so many overweight people in one place in their lives to stand in the back because there is no room and struggle to hear and then find out that most of the meeting wasn't relevant to the people that attended.  I am sure I am not the only one with these issues, or if your are just interested in more info in another group forum let me know.   Thanks :o)  ~Siobha'n   Patchogue, NY

Hi! I am a member of a support group that holds it's monthly meetings at the Connetquot Library in Bohemia. The name of the group is LIPO (Long Island Post-ops) and it is a wonderful group of people. There are members from different doctors all over Long Island, and at different stages in their weight loss journey. The meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday of the month from 6:30 - 8:45pm, however, this month it will be held on the fourth Tuesday (Aug 26) due to a scheduling conflict.  Keep an eye on the forum for a reminder prior to the meeting...hope to see you there!
Hugs,
Lisa

That sounds great!!!  Thank you!  Can I just come into the next meeting?  How do people find out about your group?  On the 26th I will be post-op and would love something like that right now.  Thanks again!

Hi Siobhan,

We have the same surgeon.    Like you , i can't drive to the support meetings. it is too far for me. I was also looking to start a Local WLS support group here closer and a website for WLS support. I would love to start one or both of them. So , If you are still interested , please let me know , email me. I am very interested in starting a WLS support group! It would keep us all on track and keep us motivated!!

Hello!

I live in Mastic, suffolk county LI. I would love to find another support group. My doctor is up near where I work and child care is an issue when I go. I just found this NY subforum, and will now check in here regularly - so I hope to get to know you all.

Hi I'm from Medford and I'm 6 weeks out.  I attend Dr. Brathwaite's support group in Patchogue but I would love additional support.  Let me know if you form a group.  Thanks

HI Everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that Lizzy and I are going to be forming a suffolk WLS support group in the next month or so.  If you are interested in some additional support please let us know, make sure you add yourself as my friend and watch for blog postings.  We hope to see everyone  there.
