2 down and 12 to go

Well day two of my all liquid pre-op diet is winding down.

It's hard, but I believe it's going to be doable for 12 more days.  Granted being at work most of the day really helps.   Keeps me busy and mind off of not eating.  The weekend will no doubt be much harder.

My surgeon (actually it was my Nut that gave me all the details) wants 800-1200 calories from protein shakes, which comes out to about 4 a day. Then you can have all the sugar free liquids you want.. Crystal Light, Diet Snapple, sugar free Popsicles, ect.  I can also have unlimited chicken broth. Then he allows unlimited raw and cooked low carb veggies.  That's it..nothing more and nothing less.  So those veggies really help.   So far on both days I have eaten the exact thing and I most likely will keep keep doing the same.  I've never been one who needs variety.. I've never really had a problem of eating the same thing over and over.. Hopefully that will continue.

7:30 protein shake.  (8oz skim milk, chocolate flavored protein powder, and I admit I've put in a small amount of blueberries (5-7 berries) that we picked and froze a couple weeks ago)

9am-11am  Snack on some raw veggies I take into work, broccoli, cauliflower, green peppers and a couple of cherry tomatoes

1:30  Another protein shake minus the blue berries

3ish  Small 5.5 oz can V-8 juice (I bought some ensure and boost to try also)

5:00  Protein shake

6:30ish   My version of french onion soup..  Took big can of chicken broth (yeah I know french onion uses beef, but we need the protein from the chicken) sliced up some onions, a few spices and let it cook till the onions are tender.. one pot made enough for probably about 4 days worth. I almost feel like this is cheating, but I'm allowed unlimited chicken broth and onions are a low carb veggie..  so no reason I can't do this.

9ish or so Another protein shake

2 down and 12 more to go.   I'm starting to get nervous now.. worry about all the bad surgery stuff.  Pain, staples, DRAINAGE TUBE!!!  Waking up with a breathing tube down your throat and feeling like you're going to choke on it.  EEK!!!

why not focus on your "list" instead?

1. be able to sit at a booth

2. be able to tie shoes in the middle....

3. shop at the regular department...not the OMG dept.

etc....

pain, staples, drainage tubes, trach tube, etc....ALL TEMP....

You're doing great! Hnag in there it's almost over!!!!

Don't worry about the surgery stuff. Check with your surgeon but mine did the breathing tube after I was knocked out & took it out before I woke up - I never felt a thing!! As far as the drain tube is concerned - that's a piece of cake. I wrote about it in my profile!! It was a bizarre feeling but it didn't hurt at all!!! I had the surgeon laughning so hard by my reaction!! It really was hysterical!!!

Keep up the great work!!!

YES, keep you eye on the prize....don't worry about the breathing tube...you are still very groggy when they take it out...and hopefully they have the pain pump for you...that was my life saver in the hospital.  It is all worth it...trust me!
