O'Malley anyone?
I'd love to hear from anyone who had Dr. William O'Malley from the Baritric Center of Excellence at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. My surgeon has left the state and I am now a patient of his and have yet to even meet him. How was he? What was his pre-op diet? How was his follow-up?
Thanks for anything you want to share with me. I go for a seminar on the 31st, and then a consult with him on the 7th even though I've done everything else already.
Wish me luck.

I had O'Malley and I am very happy with my choice. He's not the hand holding type of dr. but he comes across as very confident and knowledgeable in his surgeries and that was what I was looking for - someone who could do the job well! I really loved his seminar - he told it like it really was and didn't sugar coat anything. I walked out of there with a complete faith in his abilities and a sense of calmness in putting my life in his hands. And so far I have had no regrets. My surgery was a total breeze and I have never had any problems - I cannot believe how easy the whole thing actually was.
His pre-op diet was really easy. You have to actually just start learning to eat healthier and make wiser food choices. As long as you don't gain any weight during your time pre-op you are fine (unless your insurance requires you to lose some). There is no liquid diet that you have to do for months before or anything like that. All I did was cut out fast food and try to cut back on sweets and I lost about 15 lbs from my seminar to my surgery.
The follow-up is good. You have to go back at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and then 1 year and every year there after. You don't actually see O'Malley you will see the PA. But I like her and have not had a problem.
Overall I would rate it a 10 out of a 10 but that being said my surgery was text book perfect and I have not had a single problem or issue so I have never had to "test" the office to see how they work under a problem. But they have instilled confidence in me that they would be able to solve any issue that I may ever have.
If you have any other questions I would be more than happy to answer any. Good Luck and I hope that your journey is as smooth as mine was!

Thanks so much for all that info. I'm a bit nervous because I pretty much have done everything but the seminar because i was originally with another surgeon. So since my nut visits back in March i have gained about 9 lbs, so I hope that doesn't change anything with this doc. Do they weigh you on the day you attend the seminar?
The don't weigh you at the informational seminar but at the first nutritional seminar. Hopefully they will let your little weight gain slide. Just don't gain anymore!
I know that they are not really big on making people go on crazy diets to lose weight. They just don't want you to gain anything while you are going through the process of getting approved. Once you have your surgery date they don't weigh you again so the NUT actually told me to use that time to eat anything that I wanted to eat again as a sort of last supper. I didn't go overboard during those 2 weeks but I know that I walked into the hospital weighing more than I did 2 weeks previously.
Keep me informed on your progress and if you have any more questions, I'm there for ya!

he is an excellent surgeon had no pain other than 1st day and that was no more painful than a stomach ache. the program is very thorough and will set you up for sucess. He is a very matter of fact type of guy. He only meets with you 3 times pre surgury scheduling meeting, day of surgury, and right after other than that you deal with support staff but they are excellent. You will be very happy with his program. He was featured on OPRAH and has done over 1800 of these surguries excellent track record !!!!
The longest of Journeys start with a single step
(90 lost pre-surgery)
