Can anyone please recommend a psychologist on Long Island?? Maybe in Suffolk County?? I'm having a hard time deciding who to see. I hate just picking a name from my insurance list.

I'm sorry, but I don't have a name for you, especially one that will take insurance. Mine was part of the multi-disciplinary team at the surgeon's office. Good Luck.

I know it's the insurance factor I have to worry about. I was hoping to find someone who would except my insurance otherwise I can use the Psycholigist at my doctors office but she doesn't take my plan.  Things to worry about!!

If you haven't already, check with your surgeon's office. Since it's almost always a requirement these days, most bariatric surgeons have a psychologist (or several) that they work with, or frequently get evaluations from, that they can refer you to.  Also, just going through your insurance list would only get you the psychologist... not all psychologists do bariatric pre-op evaluations at all.. or for some of those, they will only do it if you've been a regular therapy patient of theirs for a period of time, as some claim that they can't give a proper evaluation from just one or two 45-minute sessions. Good luck.

Yeah you definitely want to ask the surgeon first because they may not accept an eval from just anyone they may require a specific person or persons to go to.

The longest of Journeys start with a single step

Hello all ,
I used Dr. Judy Lynch of  Upstate Orange County . She is great . She has had the bypas , revision and was the first in the country to get the band over the revision..
She also runs two supprt groups.
Do not remember but don't think gHI was accepted but it was well worth  going to her.
Worth the drive I think
