A little worried

I realize that this is not an easy road to follow after the surgery.  I havent even had the surgery and I am feeling the strain.   I am a tough old bird as far a that goes but  I have never been very good at waiting.  But WOW!  the time is going so slow!  I am afraid i am going to gain.  I know I am retaining water, but i dont know how much is actual weight.  I am thinking about using medifast before my date,  Which is Sept 16.  Does anyone have any suggestions about how long before should I start it?  I am assuming once I start using this the water weight will drop quick.  I am just afraid it will stop me from having my surgery. I just need to get things off my chest

Talk with your surgeon about the Medifast.  My Doc had me on Medifast prior to my surgery, it really worked well for me, they base how long you are on the liquid diet by how much weight they want you to loose prior to your surgery.  Just don't do this on your own, it can really have an effect on your blood work, so this should be a medically supervised diet.  I had to go see my Doc once a week while on the Medifast.

Good Luck

Which doctor? PCP or RNY surgeon?  I am glad you told me about the blood work.  I am afraid to say something to my RNY surgeon.  I am afraid he will cancell if he learns I have gain weight.  I know its not that much weight.  a couple pounds the the rest is water.  It could be all water for all I know..  I havent been able to do much walking because of the heat and being on oxygen.  and my feet and legs look like someone blew them up like balloons.  Frustration!

Hi there.  I know how tedious the wait (weight) can be. Your surgery is literally right around the corner. You'll wonder where the days flew to, though, because the time will speed by. Try to utilize this time in training your body into the healthy eating eating habits that you'll absolutely have to maintain for the rest of your life post-op. Do one baby step at a time like weaning yourself from caffiene if you are on it. Practice drinking a lot of  water because that will be a required staple in your diet post -op. Even if you can't exercize for some medical reason now, just increase your movement in your daily life one day at a time. Now is the time to take advantage of the few weeks before surgery to do the right things to prepare for surgery and after. It is easier said than done - believe me - I know. You want this surgery so badly, so if you keep your eye on the prize, you CAN do this. Never be afraid to talk to your surgeon about this. Realize that he isn't punishing you to lose weight ,but it actually shrinks your liver to minimize surgical risks. Discuss the Medifast diet with him.( I did not have to do this but understand from others that it is not so easy.)You have a good amount of time to take off some weight prior to surgery. I wish you the best and hang in there. Keeping your focus on the goal should help you get there. Keep us posted.

Thank you for your words of encouragement.  I know I have enough time to lose whatever weight I have gained and to stop using salt and drinking coffee.  Today will be my last day of caffiene.   Good food is so expensive that I have taken to buying most things at aldi's.  I love that store.  and have told my family that its going to be alot of chicken.  I hear a lot of groaning around here.  Its definately a family process.  I need my familyt to back me up here and grin and bear it.  For the most part they do.  We are now working on moderation.  My youngest daughter will open up two cans of soup if I am no****ching.  I get them soups for lunch, stuff I wont touch.  I didnt realized the certain foods have alot of sodium.

By cutting back on the salt, it will really help you get rid of some of the excess fluid.  You made a good decision to get rid of the salt.  Watch the sodium in your diet also. Keep up the good work.
