Dr. Lelito psych in buffalo can he ruin your chances?

I just saw Dr.Lelito and am concerned that her can ruin my chances of WLS.  He seemed against it. Asking me why I just stay on weigh****chers forever, You're really not heavy enough (37 BMI). I explained that I do have co[-morbids and insurance will cover it. Has any had him ruin your chances for surgery? How much of an impact does the psych eval have? Opinions needed! Thanks!

I saw Dr. Lelito and he told me he wasnt able to "ruin our chance for surgery" He was only able to say if we are mentally stable for it. So as long as everything went well with the psych part of it, you should be okay. I was thinking the same thing and was so neurotic I called the office and requested his report be sent to me. The only thing he recommended was that I see a nutritionist before I actually could see Dr. Caruana. Good luck with the whole process!

Thanks for the reply! I'm glad I wasn't the only one concerned about this. Is seeing the nutritionist mandatory or just a recommendation? Did he ask for you to sign permission to have your doctors send reports to him? I was also concerned about this. This is such a long drawn out process!  I'm just hoping I can get an appointment soon!

Oh, one more thing. How long did it take for him to have his report ready? Was it pages long or just brief? Thanks!

I dont think seeing a nutritionist is mandatory, I have 3 friends who have also had GB and none of them had to see a nutritionist first, I guess I was the lucky one!  I think his report was ready in 1 or 2 weeks and it was only 3 pages long. He didnt request records from any of my drs (that I am aware of) I had to sign  release for him to send records to other drs.  I hop this helps. If you have any more questions, please ask! I would not recommend Lelito. He was very negative from the time I walked in. He took one look at me and said I was not big enough, then proceeded to say that I have lost weight on weigh****chers why don't you just do that?  I replied back," Would you like to be on weigh****chers for the rest of your life?"

He is on main st. in Wmsvl.

Are you going through synergy? If so, they will only let you see him I think.

I received my report back from him. He put another roadblock in the way for me (as I assumed he was going to).  He put in his report that I should see a counselor before and after surgery. Now, I have to find a counselor and go for counseling before I can get an appt. with Caruana/Viglianco.

Whatever you do, do not tell him you are depressed over your weight. I believe this is why I need to go for counseling first and obtain yet another letter from another doctor!

I was so upset after receiving his report,  I called him and asked him why he said this.  I also told him that I felt the negativity when I first walked in the room. He hung up on me and said I was being combative.  I was not nasty, just honest. 

In my opinion, Lelito is a man who has never had a weight problem, weight loss surgery and is trying to tell people what to do/recommend who are overweight.  He is also milking all of the HMO's b/c he gets all of Caruana's patients. A couple of times he said things about this surgery that wasn't true which made me question his knowledge on this topic.

If you do see him just be very careful what you say. He can hold things up for you!

I saw him and I did not like him, just something about him.. He made me go to a nutritionist  for 3 months, it put me back . It's been 5 months since I started. I also had to see him for a follow up and now I'm worried he'll hold me back another 3 months. I finally got another appointment with Dr. Viglianco on 10/22. I'm worried the Dr's office is going to call me and tell me he wants me to do something else now.

I think you are fine now. When you do see him again just make sure your previous answers match the ones you gave him before excluding of course the nutrition questions.  Just make sure you tell him you do not eat fast food and broil, bake, grill food etc. low carb, low fat etc.

Yes, he puts road blocks up for sure!

I saw Dr. Lelito last week- I guess from reading this thread that I am not alone in my feelings about him. I found him to be rude, condescending, nasty, and uninformed. He got on my case about eating out, however he has no idea what I eat when I go out. I live alone, so of course I go out to eat a lot. It's not as if I eat burgers and fries every day!! I can't wait to see what his recommendations are.
