Interesting...I went to the dentist 3 weeks after my surgery and didn't have any problems.

Hmmm, that's interesting!! I need to go & am torn between trying to get in to my old dentist's new practice or going back to the place he left!! I hate the dentist (bad childhood experiences) so it's always an ordeal for me but I liked this guy... his new place just isn't as convenient for me any more!! Well, I guess I better decide soon!! Hopefully he won't pull the "medical clearance" card cus once I get the momentum it's hard to keep it going!! I better ask when I make the appt. I do find it bizarre though that after 5 months they told you it was too soon!!! Makes no sense to me!! Good luck!! Cece

Did she say this in relation to any surgery or did you say bypass and she may of thought CARDIAC bypass? Just curious, this is a new one for me? I know there is a 6 month wait after certain CARDIAC surgeries, she may of misunderstood but can get your bariatric surgeon to 'clear you' I suppose, did she say WHEN you could have a cleaning?

I don't mean to sound rude but really you need a new dentist! I had a cleaning less than a month post op THEN scaling done less than 3 months post op...really I'd be looking for a new dentist STAT!!

201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!

And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!

I had dental work performed about 3 or 4 weeks after my WLS.  My dentist knew I had it and never commented on needing any type of clearance.

On the other hand, I have spoken to several people that had issues with their teeth following WLS, and they really suggest regular visits with your dentist.

Good Luck

I had a lap RNY on 6/19 and went to the dentist for a cleaning on 6/24.  I told the hygeinist I had the surgery and she didn't question a thing.  Just updated my history chart.
