as of their last NCD, Medicare does NOT cover just the sleeve, as it hasn't been done long enough as a stand-alone procedure for weight loss to determine efficacy. I have no idea about NYSHIP UHC, but most insurance companies tend to follow Medicare as for what they consider experimental or not. As of now, all Medicare covers is the Lap Band, RNY and DS. I know Yatco does the Band and RNY, but so far doesn't offer the DS.... though his associates Roslin and Shah both do the DS (and quite well I may add) Edit to add: I saw your surgeon's name, but wasn't paying attention to your surgery date... I thought you had picked your surgeon and were researching for yourself.  my bad.... though all the other info still applies. Good luck

thanks for the info, I was looking up info for my husband, he doesn't want the band as our daughter had it 1 yr ago and had major problems, it slipped causing her to have emergency surgery where she had to have the sleeve done, which she now says she wished she did in the first place, the best for her now.  He is scared about the band and I had the RNY done is Aug 07 by Dr. Yatco and that is the best for me, I have lost 80lbs and doing great.  He is rethinking all options, he has many health issues so surgery is a good choice but which one for him ?   I was just checking to see if medicare finally covers the sleeve. Thanks again  Judy
