A bit confused and scared.....

Yesterday I had my two month doc visit - actually it was with the nurse practioner.  I have lost 47 pounds since surgery (March 17) of which 15 of that was since last visit last month - which she was pleased with.  She went over my journal and made some suggestions but overall she thinks I am eating too much and that is why I have lost only 47 pounds.

I in no way, shape or form eat like I used to (LOL!!).  I admit I have eaten a bit more than 2 ounces at some meals but NEVER more than 3.5/4 ounces if that!  I can not physically fit all that food into my pouch.  The NP told me to eat no more than 2 ounces (two medicine cups) of food, 3 meals a day - no snacks in between, no nothing no matter how healthy. Does this sound right?  I was excited that I was at the point where I could eat 2 2.5 ounces of protein and add a little bit of veggie. I average about 300 calories a day give or take.  I just do not want to do anything that will hamper my weight loss.

My goal (the NP's goal) for next month is June 20 - down 15-20 more pounds and then another 15-20 pounds on top of that by July 15 - so by July 15 the NP wants to see 30-40 more pounds off me.  Is that possible?  I thought weight loss slows down the further out you are. I guess I am just a bit confused and scared.  I do not want to overeat! Thanks for your thoughts. Deb

I Don't know....Honestly.... but what I do know is, I would rather be eating less than more...but...then again...everyone is different. It is SOOOO easy to binge eat and to eat by emotions or "head hunger". However, we CANNOT be victims of it. That is what brought us to this point to begin with. I am not trying to "preach at you".

Hi Deb, First, congratulations on the 47 lbs.  I think that's great!  I don't know what to tell you except that all NP's/docs are different.  My surgeon's office's range in the beginning was 8-12 lbs/month.  I thought that 12 lbs. a month was "too little" but they don't.  Also, I was considered a "lightweight" and we usually lose somewhat more slowely.  I remember at your stage I was still supplementing w/shakes--300 calories/day is very little--  I wish these doctors/nuts, etc. would all find one set of guidelines and stick to it.    Do the best you can, stick to her food guidelines, drink your water, and exercise.  You should be fine with your goal.  And if you truely do everything she wants you to do and you "fall a little short", what's she gonna do? Take care, and keep up the great work.

Deb, Congrats on your weightloss so far!! You are doing great!! I don't know what to tell you about your program - like someone said earlier - I wish these folks would find a common ground & stick to it!!! I really think at 2 months out I was eating a little more than 2oz of food... I can't remember. It seems like so little but if that is what they are telling you to do then follow their guidlines & you will do just fine!!  Good luck!!! Keep up the great work!! Cece

Congrats on your surgery and your success so far.  I would try to stick to your surgeons office plan as much as possible.  They are all different.  I actually ate 6 and still do eat 6 smaller meals when i can through the day....but again try to follow what they say at least early out.  I stuck to my surgeons plan like glue for the first year and hit my goal weight by 10 mths out.....then after a year and a good routine i tried different things to see what i was able to maintain with etc.... Good luck and any time your not sure call the surgeons office...
