Back pain
I left the hospital last Saturday after having gastric bypass. I've had no pain except for back pain. Some of it is between my shoulder blades and some is lower back. If I sit straight up or prop a pillow behind me to keep my back straight I seem to be ok. Has anyone else had this problem after surgery? I assumed it was because of the hospital beds and gas build up in the hospital but I have a wonderful bed at home and not having problems with gas.
Hey there Carol. I am right there with ya. My back has ached non stop since I left the hospital. I think part of the issue for me at least is that I still don't feel really comfortable lying other than mostly on my back. Since I am not really a back sleeper that has made a difference. Also could be that you are holding yourself slightly different. I know that for myself that I am not standing quite as straight as before. As I get a tad more comfortable I am sure this will change. I will be so happy once I can finally use my hot tub to aid my poor back. Take care and glad to hear that you are doing well otherwise.

Carol,My husband had the same complaint post op,back pain between his shoulders. At his 1 week visit our MD told us it was gas.Not unusual to be gassy up to three weeks after surg. Our MD also told us that women are more prone to gas.I had the same problem post op but mine was in my belly.Sitting straight up when I ate helped, walking helped me toot, which helped the pain.I also took some gas ex after my one week visit and it was ok;d by my MD.Do not take any meds unless MD says ok too.I would tell you to call your MD about this and see if he can help you with this uncomfortable feeling.Don't be afraid to ask for advise from your MD,his job is not done after the surg.(this comes from someone in the medical profession).MICHELLE
