how are rising grocery costs affecting the way you eat and shop?
I am in the process of reviewing a new low carb slow cooker cookbook so I went out yesterday to buy ingredients for about 10 of the receipes. I spent over $400.00 between Costco and Fred Meyer. Yes, I bought some non food items (diapers for example) but honestly, it was mostly food. I posted photos of the grocery store receipts on my blog and photos of some of the prices listed on the meats for example. I know that I live in Alaska so what I am paying is probably more than what most other areas are paying, but by how much? if any? I would love to know how other people are dealing with the rising costs of groceries. Please feel free to comment on my blog. I am really curious if I am paying much more than average.

Honestly, it's not bothering me at all! I figure with what I used to spend in drive-thrus this isn't bad at all! Granted I shop for one (or half as I joke) so I can get off cheaper than most although the last time I hit the grocery store I spent $255 for me!!! Yes, it was tax rebate day & I did go a little overboard & didn'****ch prices like I normally do & yes I did have to buy some items other than food but still who spends that much for one person? I am now stocked & won't need anything really to speak of for a few weeks!!! Thank god for my food saver!!! But I do open the fridge/freezer & wonder how in the world I am going to eat all of that stuff!! As long as I remember to bring lunch with me every day I should be fine!! Who would've ever thought I'd be worried about food going bad before I could eat it all?!!! Not me!!! That never used to be an issue - nothing ever lasted that long!!!
Oh well!! It's only going to get worse I fear!!! But it is a price I am willing to pay!!

It's not bothering me or really effecting me--I shop at Trader Joe's and I've not seen their prices go up at all now Whole Foods is a completely different story!

And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!
Surgery Date: 6/5/07
Well it is having a real impact on my family. I have not been able to really "grocery" shop in a few weeks now because there just isn't the money available. I go in and buy just some essentials. This week that was toliet paper. Not sure what is gonna happen at the end of this week because we will be out of almost everything and it is not a pay week. Guess we will survive, we always do. I am the only provider in the family (no husband) so we live off what I can afford. Gas to get back and forth to work is the main priority at this point.

Sally,
I can only imagine how hard it is on single moms (& dads). I watched my mom go through it for years & I went through it when I wound up taking care of my mom & sister & several houses. I am fortunate now, finally, to be in a good place financially... not great but good. I can't even imagine what it's going to be like by the middle of the summer!!! It's scary!!! These politicians can't tell me there isn't anything they can do!! Someone has to be able to do something!!!
