Wish me luck

I'm kind of new here...been lurking for a while... I have my initial consult with Dr. Cunningham on Tuesday.  This will be my FOURTH initial counsultation! 2 years, 9 months, and 11 days ago, I nearly died.  I was vomitting blood. I had ruptured varices in my esophagus.  This was later discovered to be caused by a liver condition called NASH.  The NASH causes portal hypertension and an enlarged spleen.  This all makes me risky for surgery, hence why docs 1, 2 and 3 all declined.

Since nearly dying, I lost 160 pounds, and have now (due to my damn metabolism) have gained all that back, and it brought "friends"! Liver docs said if I don't lose the weight, I face a transplant 5-10 years away.  So, I've been researching, talking, learning about RNY for quite a while. Wish me luck that THIS time, I'll be accepted!

Hi Don,  I wish you all the best with your appt.  I also had Dr. Cunningham and he is the BEST there is as far as I'm concerned.  I believe that we met at support group in Camden last month...I was the red head at the end of the table.  I'll pray for you but I know that if anyone can help you with this it's Dr. Cunningham...I'm sure your going to love him too.  Good luck dear and all my best is going your way. Toodles. Dee

Yes, I was at the last Camden Support group meeting. I'll be there on the 14th IF he accepts me.  If I'm not there, you know it's bad news.  If I'm there, there'll probably be a smile and relieved look on my face. I was confident up until today...I talked to a couple nurses outlining my issues, and they said the doc has done a lot riskier people than me.  But as it draws near, I'm nervous - which I guess is normal. (Who likes rejection?)  I have ALL my testing done.  I even have a psych eval scheduled in the Utica area!  So, I'm very committed to getting this done.  I even have a date scheduled with a lawyer to go over things in case that ULTIMATE complication becomes reality. Support group is great - especially since I'm starting to run into people who are VERY negative (and uninformed) about the surgery. Thanks for the kind words...hope to see you on the 14th. To Tim - glad to see your back.  I have said a few prayers for you.
