Hello everyone,   I am new to the site and I am trying to decide if I should have the surgery.  After being on this site I can see all the support and information you guys share with each other and it has really helped me in feeling like I should do the surgery.  I am from Saratoga and I am turning 30 this summer and I am worried about life after WLS also I do not have children yet, should I do the surgery before I have kids or should I wait until after? I am also really nervous about my insurance covering it and everything that is related to surgery(anesthesia, pain,NG tube, sharing a room, ext.)   My PCP has recommended Ellis Hospital so I think that is where I would be doing the surgery. Any information anyone would like to share would be great! Elizabeth

Welcome to OH NY Forum!  It's the best place for support you'll find!  Deciding to have surgery is the best thing I could have done for myself.  Granted, I'm older and didn't plan to have children, but wouldn't go back to who I was for anything!  I have seen some young women who have had WLS and have had children after.  I'm sure you'll get the responses you'll need to reassure you this is fine!

Best of luck in your decision!

Elizabeth, Welcome to the OH site. This is a great place for support, information and friendship. Ask tons of questions and read, read, read. As far as pregnancy goes, there is a post-op pregnancy forum you can try http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/postop_pregnancy/.  I think that would be an excellent resource for questions regarding pregnancy after surgery.   Best of luck. Hugs, Lisa

Hi Elizabeth. Why not go to a few of the support groups that your surgeon is associated with and ask lots of questions. You'll know when the decision to have surgery is the right time. Until then, read everything you can find out, attend some support groups and feel free to hang out here with some really great people. Good Luck.

Hi Elizabeth, I had surgery with the full intention of having kids afterwards. In fact, my ob/gyn's partner specializes in pregnancies in post-WLS women.

I decided that it would be healthier for me and my future babies if I wasn't super morbidly obese when I got pregnant. But as the others have posted, research research research and make the best decision for you.

Thank you everyone for the help
