Pilonidal Cyst
Okay, so it has been almost a year since my surgery and I have been experiencing ever greater pain in my tailbone....finally went to my pcp last tuesday....sent for x-rays...no fracture but something called a Pilonidal Cyst is his guess...I go to consult with a surgeon tomorrow morning...the pain in un-effing-believable! hurts to bend over and I can only sit in certain positions...the pain actually takes my breath away....I was wondering if anyone else has suffered through this and the outcome/procedure that was used to relieve it...thanks

Since losing the weight, I do have tailbone issues, but it is not a pilonidal cyst. My daughter had that and had it lanced and thank GOD, she hasn't had any further issues. It was recommended that she follow up with surgery, but we decided against it since I discovered showed that even with surgery it can come again. So, check it out and ask lots of questions.
good luck

I had one WAY back when I was 15.... saw the doc for it, and opted not to get it taken care of... in about 6 months, it became a pilonidal SINUS....
warning: possibly gross content ahead.....
this was about an inch or so down from the top of the butt crack... yes, it was painful when it was just a cyst, but at the time I was a little fearful of having surgery on my ass, so I put it off....
when it became a sinus, at first I joked that I had TWO butt-holes
... as time went on, it became more and more painful.... and it would ooze the most god-awful stuff I've ever seen.... all sorts of rainbow colors (yellow, green, beige, white, red, etc) and it would STINK like DEATH.
The drainage got so bad that it got to the point that I was using MAXI-pads (the thick ones) on my backside, and would have to change it 4-5 times a day.
FINALLY I caved in and went for the surgery to have it removed... it was an out-patient procedure. I was given the choice of epidural and sedative, or to be knocked out completely.... I chose the knock-out.
the procedure itself is pretty basic and was completely uneventful for me back in 86 when I had it done.
Good luck.

Oh you poor baby! It's been many years since I had a pilonidal cyst, but I do remember how much it hurt. In my case, I had some early, slightly sore flare ups, but I didn't really know what it was. As time goes on, they get bigger and more painful. Lancing is just a temporary fix, because it comes back again. Surgery removes the sinus. The procedure is pretty straigt forward, but the wound is packed so that it heals from the inside out. I haven't had any problems since the surgery and that was over 30 years ago. Good luck.

Okay, so I went to my surgeon's office yesterday and I do not have a Pilonidal Cyst, my cyst is much deeper, actually attached to my tailbone...so surgery is next Thursday. The surgeon's assistant that did my pre-surgical intake said that he cannot remember the last time they did this procedure because cysts of this variety are so rare...should I be worried???????
