Hi All, I am 1 month out...it is flying by!  Still havent lost anything but inches in about 3 weeks.  I dont understand why.  I have tried chicken cooked several ways...and it got stuck and I puked each time.  I can only eat it as chicken salad.  Scallops made me puke too...everything else I have had is great.  Eggs work really well for me.  I have a few questions.  How much should I be eating at a month???  Maybe I am not eating enough?  I am still having a hard time getting all of my fluid in.  When can you try salad, red meat, bread???  Just wondering.  I still struggle w/head hunger....or I call it cravings.  I CRAVE doritos and pepsi really really bad!!  I cant wait till the support group on monday!!!

Kristy,

I know that Chris had told me no salad for 6 months. I bet they would say no bread for a while also since it does not contain protein. I want to say the only red meat for a few months is the extra lean hamburger.

Right now for breakfast I have a poached or scrambled egg (egg beaters). Lunch and dinner areis usually an ounce of chicken, with 2 TBSP of cottage cheese or baked beans (just look at the labels some are pretty high in fat and sugar) and sometimes I will add 1-2 TBSP of vegtable (peas, acorn squash (roasted with a little splenda and cinnamon) beets, broccoli). I also made the ricotta bake from egg face's site (8 ounce ricotta with one egg, basil, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper, topped with a little non chunky spaghetti sauce and a small amount of mozzarella cheese. Baked in the oven until hot a bubbly, it tastes like mannacotti without the shell)

Have you had your once month follow up yet?  I am sure that they could help you at the office.  Also have you considered calling evelyn the dietitian at the hospital? Or maybe PM Michelle, she is a little further out.

Best of luck,

Jim

Kristy, Congrats on making it a month!! Yes, time does fly - 6 months already - I can't believe it!! Don't give in to the cravings - it's so not worth it!! I was craving Wise BBq potato chips - oh the memories!!!  Stick with what is working for you & as long as you're getting in your protein you will be fine. Have you tried ground turkey (my new best friend)? I use it in everything... chili, tacos, stuffed peppers... you name it!! I have been pretty lucky - the only thing that doesn't sit well with me is Italian sausage but I use the turkey Italian sausage & that is great. I tried red meat at about 2-3 months out - ground beef only & that was ok - I used gravy to help it along. I have a piece of toast once in a while but not often... it's too many empty calories & too much of a temptation!!  I just had my 6 month appt last Tues & Evelyn said still no lettuce... ok, maybe a few small bites... but it's better to eat all of the veggies with the salad! Not exactly what I wanted to hear but when she explained what happens to it after we eat it I was ok with it!!  I can't remember the exact amounts for 1 month out but it can't be much more than 1/4-1/3 of a cup. I remember eating a few oz of protein, a couple tbs of veggie & maybe a couple tbs of mashed potatoes... it filled the inside of my bread plate! (Ironic huh? I use a bread plate to eat off!! Oh well!) Good luck!!! You are doing fine - just keep plugging along!! Cece

As for bread the longer you can stay away the better...same with most carbs...let ketosis be your friend now and help reduce hunger by focusing on protein water and vits!.Do yu do protein shakes?

The time does go quickly. Stick to what you are doing and if you are not exercising you might want to start.  I was always much more pleased with the inches disappearing than the pounds. It will happen though, all of a sudden. Think of all the reasons you had this surgery. Stay away from the crappola. The funny thing is...if you did have Doritos...they would probably get stuck! Yuck. Good Luck.
